Wider Horizons, Awareness and Crunch Points – 29 October 2018
So, I survived travelling back from London on that crazy Uranian Full Moon! It was a good example of using astrology in a “forewarned forearmed” way because I allowed an extra hour for getting to the airport even though the journey was in the early hours of the morning.
The roads were practically deserted – but we got to the M25 only to find it closed! We then took the scenic route through all the leafy roads of Surrey, mostly behind an enormous truck – which added an extra hour to the journey. So I arrived bang on time for a 4am check in – but would have missed the flight if I hadn’t built in the wiggle space.
Uranus
Uranus rules disruption, the unexpected and shocks – including electrical ones – and is also linked to all things technological.
I had unplugged my computer before leaving home but hadn’t unplugged the phone line. There had been a storm and the modem was blown out.
No internet! That took two days to sort out, so I immediately fell behind with emailing but am now catching up!
So, the clocks have gone back, and we’re now into GMT. The cold evenings have arrived here in Greece, the airport shut yesterday but will reopen earlier than usual next year as Easy Jet flights start 31 March instead of 1 May. We still live in hope of one day having flights throughout the winter!
But the week gets off to a cheerful start as the communication planet meets up with opportunity maker Jupiter
Monday 29 October
-
Mercury conjunct Jupiter 27 Scorpio 11.06
This spells news and, as Jupiter is the Greater Benefic of the heavens, we can expect it to be good news, or information that will turn out to be fortunate, positive, liberating or helpful in some form.
For some, this aspect signals endings as it’s is also about closure. It’s Mercury’s last aspect before he changes sign on Wednesday. More importantly it’s Jupiter’s last major aspect before he changes sign next Thursday (8 Nov), ending his year in Scorpio and beginning the year in his own sign of Sagittarius.
I’ll be talking a lot more about this hugely important event next week but for now I’ll just comment that it’s only these last few weeks of Jupiter’s final leg of the journey through Scorpio that seems to be producing results.
It’s been a long tough year for a lot of people and I’ve been privy to many stories of big life changes, many connected to the Scorpio themes of:
- Life and death,
- Starting over,
- Finding strength
- And resilience – that we didn’t know we had
Wider horizons
As Mercury will go retrograde in a couple of weeks’ time this conjunction with Jupiter is the first of three. The next two happen after Jupiter has changed sign so will fall in Sagittarius:
-
29 October Mercury conjunct Jupiter 27 Scorpio
-
27 November Mercury conjunct Jupiter 5 Sagittarius
-
21 December Mercury conjunct Jupiter 9 Sagittarius
Both Mercury and Jupiter rule learning, and Sagittarius is the sign of the higher mind and the bigger picture. The time is right to act on the knowledge, wisdom and experience of this last year, to look to the future rather than feeling trapped in the past.
There’ll be stops and starts until the week before Christmas, but the main message is that wider horizons lie ahead. Generosity is also in the mix – materially or emotionally – so look out for the person who can make something happen for you.
Awareness
Mercury brings the first flavor of this, arriving in Sagittarius midweek, but this ingress coincides with Venus marking an important milestone on her retrograde journey through Scorpio:
Wednesday 31 October
-
Mercury ingress Sagittarius 04.39
-
Venus 0 Scorpio opposite Uranus 0 Taurus 08.47
-
Venus ingress Libra 19.43
Both Venus and Uranus are retrograde, and they both get back to 0 degrees of their respective signs at the same time hence the exact opposition.
Venus then backslides into her previous sign of Libra, and Uranus will backslide into the previous sign of Aries next week.
Again because of the retrograde cycles the Venus – Uranus opposition is a repeat, part of a sequence of three. This also coincides with the two planets changing sign, so the sequence falls at the beginning of one sign and the end of another:
-
10 September Venus opposite Uranus 2 Scorpio – Taurus
-
31 October Venus opposite Uranus 0 Scorpio – Taurus
-
1 December Venus opposite Uranus 29 Libra – 29 Aries
So, if you have planets or angles in the late degrees of the Cardinal signs (especially Aries but also Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) or in the first two to three degrees of the Fixed signs (especially Taurus and Scorpio, but also Leo and Aquarius) this middle contact is extremely important for you.
Often it’s the middle one that reveals the true picture or brings the real change – and the last one will resolve it.
But look out for a repetition or the ongoing unfolding of a theme that first showed around the 10th of last month.
Crunch points
In terms of themes Venus is love, money and pleasures.
Uranus, especially by opposition, is the challenge, the spoke in the wheel, the event you may or may not have seen coming, the thing that finally makes necessary changes erupt into the open.
Just this morning I heard about a friend who hasn’t been paid for three months and is now having to rethink the whole winter.
Uranus impact
Uranus is like The Tower in the Tarot. It can be the bolt from the blue and we then have to rebuild.
Uranus is also known as the divorce planet – so rocky relationships are likely to hit a crisis point, or some time apart for other reasons may have to be sorted.
In some ways the best showing of Uranus is rebellion – such as walking out of any relationship, job or situation that you know is wrong for you, even if you raise a lot of eyebrows in the process.
This doesn’t mean that you should give up on something or someone in a split-second decision. But so often seemingly spontaneous events are in reality the result of a long build-up of unrest or dissatisfaction.
Certainly, if you’re involved in any matter that is out of control it’s time for finding coping strategies.
In psychological terms Uranus symbolizes how we split off from the bit of ourselves that we don’t like! When done unconsciously it can create all kinds of friction as this is when we “project” – playing out our own issues on the screen of someone else’s life.
So possibly the most important message of all this week is to own our stuff so that we take personal responsibility and start dealing with things that we’ve somehow managed to co-create.
This is strongly underlined by Venus’ return to Libra – sign of equality, partnership and genuine negotiation.
The week finishes with a minor aspect between the two Benefics:
Saturday 3 November
-
Venus 29 Libra semi-sextile Jupiter 29 Scorpio 01.23
This aspect forms when planets are just one sign apart – so it’s not as strong as the major aspect of sextile formed when the planets are two signs apart. Nevertheless, it’s a helpful and kindly combination, and bodes well for a good Friday night out if nothing else!
Until next week
With love from Greece
