January 2013

28 January 2013 – This week’s Astrology

It’s a transitional week. Firstly Jupiter turns direct on Wednesday (11.38 GMT), after being retrograde since the beginning of last October. Whatever has been on a go slow/seemingly working against you will start to turn around and make changes for the better. In particular Jupiter rules:

  • Good luck/finding your path of good fortune
  • All things legal
  • All things foreign
  • All things educational
  • Expansion and liberation – anything that makes your world bigger and better

Jupiter makes this turning point in Gemini, sign of the Twins, so it may be that you’ll notice changes in two areas of your life, or that one event will have a clear knock on effect to the next. Note too that Jupiter loves to sow seeds. You may look back on this week and identify it as a significant time even if it’s not immediately apparent.

The weekend also brings change as Mars moves on into Pisces (water/feelings) and Venus moves on into Aquarius (air/intellect), both in the early hours of Saturday morning. These are primarily the “love planets” and this new cycle will play out until the end of the month. In essence, it’s all about balance – not allowing yourself to be governed purely by either your emotions or your opinions, but recognizing the importance of both within yourself and in others. This resonates with Temperance in the Tarot deck.

14 January 2013 – This week’s Astrology

To me this feels like a week that falls into two definite halves. For the first half we have Venus travelling towards a conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn, exact in the early hours of Thursday. Taken alone Venus (love, pleasures, money) meeting Pluto (endings, absence, power, intensity) is not the most comfortable of pictures but, as ever, it’s too easy to tip over into alarmism.

Yes, for some it will be about putting an end to unmanageable or unhealthy setups, but it’s also a good time to look deeply at anything that is not working in your life. There is also a message here about how to put your resources of love and money to powerful use.

Add to the mix that Venus moves on to make a sextile (harmonious) to Saturn in Scorpio later the same day and a picture of greater stability starts to emerge. Note that Saturn and Pluto are currently in mutual reception (each other’s signs, Saturn now travelling through Pluto’s water sign of Scorpio, and Pluto travelling through Saturn’s earth sign of Capricorn).

This signals collaboration at work, moves that you can make to strengthen or heal a situation/relationship etc. The end of the week is great for final answers and practical agreements when the Sun and Mercury meet up in Capricorn early on Friday.

The Sun and Mercury then both change sign, moving on into Aquarius at the weekend. This opens a new chapter that is far less intense as Aquarius is an air sign (the element of the mind) associated with objectivity, realism – with a dash of genius thrown in for good measure. It’s also the sign of the collective so humanitarian issues move into the limelight, as does any concern that focuses on the “good of the whole” – in other words, what works best for most is the way forwards.

7 January 2013 – This week’s Astrology

Well if you think of the planets as your “dramatis personae” Mars and Saturn are the “bad guys”. In traditional astrology Mars is known as the “lesser malefic” and Saturn the “greater malefic”. They’re at odds with each other today so you have a wonderful excuse for the Monday morning blues, especially as today is the day that a lot of people get back to work. Think slow rev up… Mars is action, Saturn blocks…

In the world this is a serious blow for pro – democracy. Mars in Aquarius (the collective, human rights) squaring up to Saturn in Scorpio (power, control) sums up the depressing news that Bahrain’s highest appeal court has upheld the sentences of 13 activists for their part in anti-government protests. In your own world this would suggest that it’s wise to stand back from somebody else’s conflict unless you really can intervene in an intelligent and constructive way.

Moving forwards, the week gets better. Venus arrives in Capricorn early Wednesday and we have the New Moon in this sign too on Friday evening. Capricorn is the sign of purpose, ambition and loves a project. It’s not too late to make a New Year’s resolution, either in relation to a professional goal or a personal desire. Whatever sets you on the road to 2013 achievements gets a big tick.

It’s sunny but freezing cold here! Drop me a line if you want to ask about astrology and tarot courses in the spring…
