Mercury conjunct Venus 9 Scorpio 21.22
Mercury is currently travelling through Scorpio – and Venus is still retrograde in Scorpio – and the week starts with the two meeting up.
Generally Mercury – Venus conjunctions are good news. But just bear in mind that Venus is retrograde, so there is a hidden element at work or a complex emotional thread running through the weave.
Mercury is the Communicator and certainly this link with Venus indicates some serious conversations and, for some, even life changing heart to hearts. But also look out for themes of what’s not being said – especially as Scorpio is considered to be one of the “mute” signs and is also associated with secrecy.
Don’t try to be a mind reader though or expect others to read yours. Hold your own counsel where necessary, but also be clear, and confide in those you trust or whose advice you respect.
The rest of the week is a relatively easy ride as Mercury is the only planet on the move and, unlike last week, his aspects now are much softer ones. The next contact is to Neptune at the end of the week:
Friday 19 October
-
Mercury 14 Scorpio trine Neptune 14 Pisces 10.49
Again this can signal news, along with Neptunian themes of
- Romantic dreams
- An intense burst of creativity or
- Emotional connections of the soulmate or forgiving kind.
Neptune can be very “other worldly” and by positive aspect he’s great for soaring imagination, compassion and empathy, and psychic work.
My tarot workshop starts within less than an hour of this aspect so am expecting a fascinating day!
Going into next week it’s still Mercury taking the lead:

Mercury 19 Scorpio sextile Pluto 19 Capricorn 20.13
Pluto is a very important player at the moment as he’s the natural co-ruler of Scorpio so he’s currently in relationship with any planet travelling through that sign (Mercury, Venus and Jupiter now, the Sun from 24th October).
And although Plutonic events can come along in many different guises and wrappers, his ultimate purpose is change of the very deep kind. His events are therefore total, profound and uncompromising.
I’ve been doing a lot of research this week in connection to Pluto as I’ve been preparing my talk on Venus in Scorpio (or Venus in aspect to Pluto) and it’s been intriguing.
Venus in Scorpio
Individuals with this Venus really are extraordinarily courageous and their stories of personal resurrection are truly inspirational.
Transformation is a major keyword for Pluto and Scorpio – the symbol of the Phoenix – but I use this word warily. Generally we’re not talking an overnight sensation here, but a process of change and strength building that come about from the necessity of tough experiences.
Pluto stuff can be relentless or even devastating yet somehow the resilience of the human spirit reemerges in time.
The Scorpio and Pluto themes are ongoing as Mercury and Venus are both in this sign until the end of the month, Venus will return to Scorpio early December, Jupiter still has another month to go before leaving Scorpio on 8 November, and the Sun arrives in this sign early next week:
Tuesday 23 October
-
Sun ingress Scorpio 12.24
The Sun’s first aspect is the opposition to Uranus, who is retrograde at the very beginning of Taurus (and will backslide into Aries 6 November). This coincides with the Full Moon, as the Moon also arrives in Taurus later the same day:
Wednesday 24 October
-
Sun 1 Scorpio opposite Uranus 1 Taurus 01.48
-
Venus 4 Scorpio sextile Saturn 4 Capricorn 13.53
-
Moon ingress Taurus 15.34
-
Moon conjunct Uranus at 1 Taurus 16.32
-
Full Moon 1 Taurus 17.46
This means that the Full Moon is dominated by Uranus. Full Moons are crazy enough on their own but coupled with the planet of disruption and surprises this one has the unexpected written all over it.
It’s the day I travel back to Greece! I wouldn’t normally choose to travel at such unpredictable times but it’s the way it’s worked out and I’m already wondering what news I’ll be coming home to.
Venus sextile Saturn
Note that Venus is also part of the picture on the same day with a harmonious aspect to Saturn, an aspect that has already happened once, but as she’s now retrograde the contact is repeating and will repeat for the third and final time after she turns direct again.
So this is the second of three – the first was 13 September and the third will be 16 December.
Venus – Saturn stuff is not easy, even by good aspect. It indicates closure, or at least a major step towards resolving a personal or financial issue. As the aspect falls in the middle of the build up to the Full Moon conjunct Uranus it pays to find your footholds, accept offers of help, grab that lifeline or throw one to the person in need.
Off to London and really looking forward to the talk and the workshops…
Next blog will be in two weeks time, until then take care,
With love from Greece
