NEW MOON\SOLAR ECLIPSE
YOUR ECLIPSE CHECKLIST – WHAT TO EXPECT?

My new book Essential Moon Astrology will be released 10 November, rather neat astrology as it turns out – New Moon conjunct my Jupiter just the day before, Mercury stationary direct on my Neptune and Venus stationary direct on my North Node.
Also Jupiter will still be in my 9th House of publishing. Another example of how we don’t need to “use” our astrology, the universe has usually got it all mapped out anyway. We’re just along for the ride!
Here’s a sneak preview from the chapter on Lunations and Eclipses:
Astrology’s job is always to convert the astronomical information into meaning. The New Moon is the “seed” moment for a new anything, ranging from external material matters to our internal world of personal development and progress. For example, the conception of babies or ideas, receiving new information that makes a difference, the arrival of new faces, finding a new job or making fresh starts of any kind.
As the Moon correlates to the 4th House of the horoscope, the sector that’s the natural domain of the sign of Cancer (family, home, property), the New Moon in any sign is especially significant for news concerning relatives, for any kind of house hunting, or for finding a buyer or a tenant.
We can also choose the time of the New Moon for conscious behaviour, such as setting intentions or starting a project, but more usually we find that the “newness” relates to things coming into our lives simply because the time is right.
So, pay attention to anything or anyone who’s playing a noticeable role in your life at these times, but bear in mind that the symbolism of the invisibility of the New Moon also needs to be observed. This means that we may not always be aware of the moment a seed is sown, but it becomes apparent in the days or even weeks that follow, exactly as with the conception of a child.
What does it mean when the New Moon is also an Eclipse? Things can get a lot more intense or complicated. Any New Moon is in a sense a rebirth moment but as an Eclipse that theme of death/rebirth symbolism is even more noticeable – changing colours, the light disappearing and coming back on again, establishing a new order. These times are generally not easy but, when the shadows lift, a new landscape is revealed, we look at what we need to deal with and we find ourselves being moved on.
YOUR ECLIPSE CHECKLIST
You can’t fight Eclipses. They have a way of being very uncompromising, and reflecting life or world events that are inevitable. It’s very important to take change in our stride and also not to take unnecessary risks.
Here are some key themes to look out for during each Eclipse season compiled over the years of close observations.
- Being overshadowed, or feeling in the dark
- Themes of empowerment – disempowerment
- Transferal of power – can show out in the world as abdication, or any handing over of the reins, and in our personal lives inheriting things that others no longer need or can no longer manage
- Themes of finality or inevitability – Eclipses light a fuse that can’t be extinguished
- Themes of loss/endings that change your life and set you on a different path
- Themes of symbolic death/rebirth – out with the old, in with the new, literally or psychologically
- Sorting winners from losers between twos or threes (Sun, Moon, Earth), eg affairs, job applications or promotions, house buying, any competitive or triangular situation. One person’s loss is another person’s gain
- Dealing with that which, until the Eclipse, had been hidden from us in some way
- Revelations – sometimes on the run up to the Eclipse, sometimes even exactly on the day
- Revelations in the future, near or far, whose origins can be traced back to the time of the Eclipse. We learn what happened when we weren’t looking, when we were in the dark or “when the light went out”
- Tipping points of change or goodbyes – no going back to something belonging to your old life
- Remember that in the natural sequence of planets and signs the Moon rules Cancer/4th House of home, family, property, so all related issues are extra sensitized during Eclipse seasons.
