The Wedding!!
In last week’s blog I wrote about the big astrological event of the year which was Uranus’ ingress into Taurus, and how important this would be for the royal family with their synastry at this degree;
“This coming Saturday, the wedding of Harry and Meghan, Uranus will be exactly conjunct the Queen’s Sun at 00.12 Taurus. Again this seems to echo a theme of passing the baton on to the new generation.”
- The Queen – Sun 00.13 Taurus (conjunct Chiron 28.00 Aries)
- Prince Charles – Moon 00.26 Taurus
- William – Jupiter 00.30 Scorpio and Midheaven 02.32 Scorpio
- Harry – Pluto 00.33 Scorpio
This was most definitely the theme. It’s being hailed as the ultimate modern wedding, no “whitewashing”, multicultural, different and even whacky. Even if you’re not into watching royal weddings at least make a point of listening to American Bishop Michael Curry’s address. It was absolutely riveting and brilliant, Uranus come to life.

The Astrology Blog 21 May 2018
Here at the Greek Island Summer School we’re in the middle of Elisabeth Brooke’s course on Astrology and Herbal Lore which is totally fascinating – I’m learning a lot! This is another string to the bow of astrology, discovering how to analyse each horoscope in terms of the temperaments of choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic and melancholic. This gives you a whole new perspective on the individual nature, the most likely health issues or vulnerabilities, and the herbs that can be used to balance, treat and cure. If you’d like to find out more about this ancient and powerful craft do get in touch as Elisabeth will be running more workshops in London this year, and will be returning to the Summer School too – all dates to be announced soon.
So, not much free time, so it’s a speedy blog this week. Note that all the times of the aspects currently being formed are exact in the early hours of each date given, so they’ll be at their most potent the previous day.
Monday 21 May
- Sun ingress Gemini 03.16 BST
Thursday 24 May
- Sun 3 Gemini trine Mars 3 Aquarius 03.40 BST
The arrival of the Sun in Gemini is very spring like! This is the sign of mutable air – so it’s all about being in circulation, thinking on your feet and not taking life too seriously. Keywords for this sign are lively, sociable, playful, multitasking, animated, talkative, inventive, resourceful and mischievous. Also look out for themes of duality. The sign of The Twins often brings doubles and multiples into the spotlight, such as affairs or choices, or buying things in twos, or looking at how you divide yourself amongst the people and demands of your life.
The Sun’s first aspect after changing sign is to action man Mars, so this is a “doing” aspect even though it’s in the thinking air signs. Aquarius is great for list making and list ticking (find me an Aquarian who isn’t a list maker) so write your own hit list – but not one that will sit on your desk gathering dust! This is a great time to get motoring and to get things wrapped up, especially the matters that really just need a bit of energy to get them finished. The time is also right for deciding on your priorities but also for making sure that you have variety, fun and humour. Do more of what makes you laugh and feel good. The essence of this sign is being young at heart. So harness that youthful energy and be your own breath of fresh air.
Ideas and decisions are also being highlighted with activity from Mercury – ruling planet of Gemini –
Wednesday 23 May
- Mercury 16 Taurus sextile Neptune 16 Pisces 03.15 BST
- Mercury 16 Taurus opposite Jupiter 16 Scorpio 06.55 BST
These aspects are not only important in themselves – listen out for news and be attentive in important conversations – but also because they’re playing into the aspect about to be formed between the major slower moving planets of Jupiter and Neptune, a trine (harmonious) which is the second of a series of three. In other words Mercury is paving the way to something bigger and which may have been cooking for a long time –
Friday 25 May
- Jupiter 16 Scorpio trine Neptune 16 Pisces 09.50 BST
- The first trine was at 11 Scorpio/Pisces on 3 December 2017
- The third and final trine will be at 15 Scorpio/Pisces on 19 August 2018
If any of these degrees are relevant to your own horoscope think back to what was happening at the beginning of last December. Any event that has been unfolding since then is now likely to reach another significant milestone.
Also look out for themes that combine the symbolism of these two planets –
- Jupiter – main principle is Expansion, anything that makes our life bigger and better, he’s the Greater Benefic, he’s good for us, creating opportunity, luck, liberation, good fortune, learning, truth and justice. Long distance travel is also part of Jupiter’s domain so all things and all people related to overseas are part of this picture.
- Neptune – main principle is Redemption. Psychologically his realm is fusion, the boundless watery world of the emotions, ruling the fuzzy world of falling in love right through to the suffering of loss or personal sacrifice. His nature is subtle, seductive, addictive, mysterious, magical, imaginative or disorientating.
So it’s not cut and dried, but this combination spells Big Dreams. Just try not to get too carried away or think that you have to throw all caution to the winds. Jupiter is retrograde until the second week of July so a heartfelt desire may be going through a period of unraveling or uncertainty. Inject a dash of realism and objectivity into the mix, especially in terms of what you want to achieve in two months time. However, this is definitely not a time for cynicism. On the contrary, keep faith, and have the confidence to rescue any important concern that you feel has been slipping away from you. Don’t be afraid to take the lead and take charge. Ask for what you want. You might get it!
But think longer term rather than instant gratification. The week comes to a difficult end with Venus – love, pleasures and desires – hitting Saturn’s brick wall –
Saturday 26 May
- Venus 8 Cancer opposite Saturn 8 Capricorn 06.41 BST
The most difficult showing of this aspect is denial of love, the pain of rejection or knowing that a relationship is over. Other messages include knowing your limitations, including financial ones, and taking disappointments in your stride. Trust that whatever is blocked to you at this time is happening for a reason, small or large. This aspect is also classic for putting duty before personal wishes, especially with regard to family issues while Venus travels through Cancer, but don’t let anyone get too heavy handed with you. What is done with love is fine, what is done with resentment is of little true benefit to anyone.
If you’re in any situation that is repressive the time is right to look at your options and to check that you’re not giving another person too much power in terms of controlling either your actions or your emotions. This week’s big message is that life is to be enjoyed, not endured! Be attuned to any message or insight that crystallizes on Sunday as we have the monthly Moon – Jupiter conjunction – at 16 Scorpio 20.49 BST.
Until next week,
With love from Greece
Joanna
