CATHERINE ZETA JONES
Happy Solar Return to Catherine Zeta Jones, and to her husband Michael Douglas who was born on the same date in 1944. So he’ll be 82 tomorrow, and she’ll be 57. The age difference doesn’t seem to have posed any real problems.
Libra is the 7th sign of the zodiac and correlates to the 7th House of partnership, where we locate marriage and all significant one to one relationships. Just as Scorpios are so often known for somehow living very closely with death (eg King Charles, see below) it’s not unusual for a Libran to be known as much for their relationship as for their career.
They’ve both said things that speak of the feeling of the marriage being fated, so does the astrology show that?
CATHERINE, NATAL & PROGRESSED CHART
Catherine Zeta Jones is one of my favourite teaching horoscopes.
Relationships are shown by the two planets that rule the signs on the Ascendant (1st House/me) and the Descendant (7th House/you) –
- She’s Sagittarius rising so Jupiter is her chart ruler (her)
- Jupiter is at 13.19 Libra, posited in the 9th House (abroad, foreigners), part of her stellium in Libra
- This puts Gemini on the Descendant (the partner) so Mercury is the significator for her husband
- Mercury (him) is at 10.13 Libra so conjunct her Jupiter, they’re only 3 degrees apart (and we can allow up to 8 degrees for a conjunction)
- So marriage and a lasting one is a definite, the rulers of me/you sitting together in Libra the sign of partnership
- As the two planets sit together in the 9th there is the “natal promise” of marrying a foreigner and emigrating
WHAT ARE PROGRESSIONS?
How do our lives progress? Transits are real time, comparing where the planets are now to where they are in the natal chart, but progressions are a symbolic timing measure. You can’t just look them up in a book (the Ephemerides), they have to be calculated. Fortunately these days we have software, but even so it’s easy to make mistakes and they take a lot of learning. You need to look for exactitude, as illustrated below.
As a rough guide, every day subsequent to the date of birth represents a year in the native’s life so, for example, the tenth day after the date of birth would correspond to the beginning of the tenth year of life. You then compare the position of the planets on that day to the position of the planets in the natal chart.
Progressions are crucial in predictive work. They bring the “natal promise” to life. In other words, what is indicated in the natal picture will come to pass when the progressed chart says so.
- CZJ was introduced to Michael Douglas in late August 1998
- They got engaged four months later on 31 December 1999
- Their son Dylan Douglas was born 8 August 2000
Exactly on that New Year’s Eve when he proposed Catherine’s Venus (love) had progressed to 10.13 Libra, the EXACT position of her natal Mercury. We would describe the progression as –
- Progressed Venus conjunct Mercury
So Venus locks on, arriving at exactly the same place as the natal Mercury, and the proposal is made. Perfect. At the time she would also have been about one month pregnant with her son Dylan.
When they met, the strongest showing for Michael Douglas was in his Angles. He had progressed Midheaven conjunct Venus, and his progressed Ascendant conjunct his Moon.
So, yes Catherine Zeta Jones, “it was meant to happen.” All relationships are written into the workings of our horoscopes.
