12 MAY 2024
This is a copy of the free fortnightly newsletter. In this issue you’ll find updates on the Summer School courses, the continuation of the series of Mercury through the signs and a preview of next week’s blog so that you can see the astrology currently taking shape.
It happens every year, winter seems to go on forever – yes we DO have a winter in Greece! – and then suddenly it’s spring and Summer School is less than four weeks away. We tend to have abrupt changes to the seasons, going from lighting the wood burner to having all the doors open in the space of a few days.
So the weather is already gorgeous, brightly coloured flowers everywhere and the magical fireflies are out in the evenings, always a sign of the beginning of the big warm up. To give you an idea next week the average is going to be 27 in the day and 17 at night. I can do further weather updates nearer the time for those coming over to take part in courses.
SUMMER SCHOOL
If you’re a follower of astrology but would love to know more then these courses are for you. By the end of the week most students are genuinely amazed at how much material we cover and how much time we’re able to spend on learning from each other’s horoscopes, as well as other teaching material of the tutor’s choice.
All courses are designed to take you through the A to Z of the chosen subject in such a way that you have the tools of the trade to take away with you and carry on your studies in a highly improved and effective way. The idea is to be “hands on” with this work, even if it’s just for your own enjoyment. But many students comment, crucially, that they go away with the confidence to start doing readings for other people.
Whatever your motivation for learning, what can be more idyllic than meeting up with like minded people in an exclusive group, on a beautiful Greek island? When I think of it like that it’s little wonder that the idea that started back in 2002 is still going, and has grown steadily over the years.
JUNE COURSES
5 JUNE – TAROT & ASTROLOGY
4 of 10 Places Available
This course is based on my new book, The Astrology Tarot, that comes with its own beautifully designed cards. Brazilian artist and illustrator Barbara Tamilin has an amazing use of colour.
The course is going to run two months ahead of publication date (13 August) but of course I have all the material from the book, so I’ll be prepping some sneak preview handouts for those attending this course.
This course is suitable for all levels, the tarot is so easy to learn and the astrology component will be aimed at beginner’s level. By the end of the week you’ll know how to use the Ephemerides – the tables that show us where the planets are on any given day – and how to marry that knowledge with a tarot spread, either for specific questions or to illustrate the particular phase of life for an individual. What are you/they going through, how is it showing and how/when will it resolve?

MERCURY THROUGH THE SIGNS
I’m serialising the Mercury signs, from my book Essential Astrology. So two weeks ago I featured Mercury in Taurus, which is where he is at the moment, and now here’s my take on the next combination.
This is of special interest to me at the moment as when Mercury arrives in Gemini it will be on 3 June, just two days before Summer School starts, and he’ll be at top speed, whizzing through the whole of Gemini in just two weeks, from 3 to 17 June, which is the last day of the June courses. By comparison, remember how we’ve just had Mercury winding through Aries for two months!
Let’s see how we get on with Mercury in Taurus in the meantime but 5 June is a big date for our diaries, it should in theory be a breath of fresh air and the green light for getting on with our lives rather than feeling stuck or demotivated.
MERCURY IN GEMINI (DIGNITY)
Mercury and the air sign of Gemini between them rule everything to do with communication and the function of the mind. The talk-talk planet in the sign of the Twins is therefore the perfect double act.
This Mercury loves nothing better than to talk and speech is quick, animated, amusing and often excitable. Here we find the hyperactive nature, or the ultimate butterfly mind, effortlessly hopping from subject to subject, or the socially skilled person who can talk to anyone about anything.
Skill with language can also show in being bilingual, like Heidi Klum whose Mercury is one of five personal planets in this sign, or even multilingual. Sometimes there is a fickleness but this is often in response to being controlled. This Mercury thrives on diversity and, like air itself, needs to circulate.
Talent with the written word is also a feature and this placing is extremely common in the horoscopes of novelists, journalists or prolific songwriters, such as Paul McCartney and Billy Joel. The most famous diary in the world was written by Anne Frank, with the Sun and Mercury conjunct (strengthened by sitting next to each other) in Gemini.
Ian Fleming is also a Sun Gemini, along with Mercury conjunct Pluto, planet of mystery and the underworld, and found fame through his creation of secret agent 007 James Bond.
In a nutshell: vivacious, clever, creative.
OTHER CELEBS WITH MERCURY IN GEMINI
Note that in the physical body Mercury rules the shoulders, arms and hands, everything to do with dexterity, and this list includes 3 top tennis players. This combo also shows that we use language to reveal but also to conceal (another way of lying) and the duality (and often multiplicity) theme of the sign of the Twins is always there somewhere, such as two or more famous marriages –
- Angelina Jolie
- Tom Cruise
- Prince William
- Adele
- Helen Hunt
- Jamie Oliver
- Meryl Streep
- Russell Brand
- Bob Dylan
- Rafael Nadal
- Kylie Minogue
- Novak Djokovic
- George Michael
- Courteney Cox
- Boris Johnson
- Helena Bonham Carter
- Hugh Laurie
- Cheryl Cole
- Joan Rivers
- Princess Charlotte
- Andy Murray
- Wallis Simpson
WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OUR SKIES?
I’m just prepping next week’s blog and it’s bracketed by the Sun conjunct Uranus at the beginning and the Sun conjunct Jupiter at the end. In other words, the Sun is re-invoking the potency of that major conjunction that was exact 21 April at 21.50 Taurus. It hasn’t quite finished with us yet and the messages may linger on until Jupiter actually changes sign in a couple of weeks time.
In this week’s blog I’ll be talking about the implications of Jupiter ending one journey and starting another – what does this mean, and how can we expect it to show in our lives and out in the world?
Next week is also important as Mercury finally moves out of Aries, been there since 10 March because of the long retrograde loop in that sign, and into Taurus. This is a big shift from Cardinal Fire to Fixed Earth, but don’t be fooled. Mercury’s now back up to full speed and even in slow paced Taurus we’ll be looking at things taking shape quickly.
Venus the love and money planet will also be in the picture, following in the Sun’s footsteps with the sextile to Saturn and then the conjunction to Uranus, an annual event. What’s the difference between solar aspects and Venusian ones? And will the stories be linked?
It seems to me that just about everyone I know is having a hard time right now. I’ll be talking about why I think the astrology is getting very crackly and why a lot of the changes that I’d expected to happen sooner are still unfolding or even only just happening. I think I’ve underestimated Uranus.
