ECLIPSE STORIES
We’re emerging from the shadows of the latest Eclipses –
- 25 October – New Moon/Solar Eclipse exactly 2 Scorpio (conjunct Venus at 2.40 Scorpio)
- 8 November – Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse 16 Taurus (opposite Mercury 16 Scorpio/conjunct Uranus 17 Taurus)
As shadows lift, new landscapes are revealed, and here’s a reminder of the key themes to look out for –
- Sorting winners from losers between twos or threes (Sun, Moon, Earth), eg affairs, job applications, house buying, any competitive situation. One person’s loss is another person’s gain – eg Liz Truss/Rishi Sunak
- Issues connected to being overshadowed, feeling in the dark
- Themes of empowerment – disempowerment
- Themes of inevitability – Eclipses light a fuse
- Themes of loss/endings that change our life and set us on a different path
- Themes of symbolic death/rebirth – out with the old, in with the new, literally or psychologically
- Dealing with that which, until now, has been hidden from us in some way
- Revelations – sometimes on the run up to the Eclipse, sometimes even exactly on the day
- Revelations in the not very distant future, when we learn what happened when we weren’t looking, when we were in the dark or “when the light went out”
- Tipping points of change and goodbyes – no going back to something belonging to our old life
Amongst my own immediate friends and family with planets or Angles at or close to the Eclipse degrees there have been some clear showings, including a change of heart about a very important and significant house move. The original choice has just been ditched – hard on the vendor as this has been going on for the last couple of months, but all the delays around surveys etc were in themselves enough of a red flag to suggest that this wasn’t the right place. They’re now putting in an offer on a place that is completely different but looks perfect.
I was in touch with a colleague about an astrological question and in that email I’d written that I was waiting to see how the Eclipses were going to show for me, especially the Lunar one as that is less than 3 degrees off my Mars which is my chart ruler. As I finished and sent that email I saw that another one had come in, that was in fact from the publishers of my last book Be Your Own Astrologer, with the news that they’re going to re-launch the book for their summer season with a new cover and new title, will let you know when that’s ready to go.
So this is an example of something that affects me having gone on “in the dark”, ie I had no idea that this was up for discussion until they contacted me after the event with their decision. The contact was also from an editor not previously known to me so in my reply I flagged up my new book ideas. She’s since replied again to say that they’ve been passed on to the team and will be discussed. If I were my own client I’d be saying that one of these will come off!
TAKING BACK POWER
One of the great things about astrology is that you never stop learning. It’s a treasure trove of knowledge that never stops giving, we only have to look at the events going on around us. On the list above I include themes of empowerment and there are key stories in the news now about taking back power – Kherson in Ukraine, and individuals stepping into the light, finding courage, speaking up for self or others, and so on.
How often do we say things like, oh I can’t do/say this/that because he/she/they will …. In such ways do we bite our tongues, swallow our resentment and give our power to others.
Remember the 5 top deathbed wishes, as written by a hospice nurse about her patients? Two of them are about courage. Number 1 – I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. And Number 3 – I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
The expansion of Number 3 – Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.
Makes us really sit up and think doesn’t it. There’s definitely a huge factor in courage that is about speaking or acting in spite of the reaction of others. Empowerment comes when we can say something along the lines of, do or think what you like, you’re not going to stop me saying or doing what I know is right.
TARANEH ALIDOOSTI
Born in Tehran, 12 January 1984 (age 38)
Taraneh Alidoosti is a top Iranian actress best known internationally for her role in The Salesman, which won the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 2017 Academy Awards. She has more than 8 million followers on Instagram.
Last week she stepped up by sharing a photo of herself without her hijab, to support the demonstrations that have been going on for the last 7 weeks, since 22 year old Mahsa Amini died in custody after being arrested by the morality police for being bare headed in public.
During this time many women who don’t have to obey Islamic law, but who are high profile, have been cutting their hair as another way of making their own protest. Taraneh is also pictured with a sign reading “Woman, Life, Freedom”, a slogan that has been chanted by protestors.

When I looked up her date of birth the day seemed immediately familiar to me and I realized that it’s just one day before Raif Badawi, whose horoscope I mentioned again a few weeks ago, so apart from the exact position of the fast moving Moon (moves 1 degree every 2 hours) and the unknown Angles, the same natal aspects and therefore transits apply.
For Taraneh a Noon Chart (assuming midday as time of birth) gives a Moon of 2 Taurus, which would suggest that this assumed time of birth isn’t far off as this fits in, Moon ruling women, exalted in the sign of Taurus but afflicted by being opposite the Mars – Pluto (men/power/control) conjunction at 2 Scorpio. There’s the first Eclipse degree.
She also has natal Saturn (the establishment/rules) at 15 Scorpio (power, sexuality), so there’s the second one. In terms of speaking up she could be very influential as her Mercury (voice) is extremely powerful – at 0 Capricorn (critical degree, Saturn’s sign) and SD – Stationary Direct. She can add weight to the turning point.
NATASA PIRC MUSAR
In the news this morning Natasa Pirc Musar has been elected as Slovenia’s first female president. Her background is the law in which she has a PhD and she’s best known for her rulings and books on freedom of information, legal opinion and high-profile legal cases, including Slovenia-born Melania Trump. Born 9 May 1968 this puts her Sun at 18 Taurus conjunct the Lunar Eclipse degree. This also screams “Jupiter”, who is now SD – Stationary Direct, see below.
PRINCESS MARTHA LOUISE OF NORWAY
Märtha Louise is a royal who’s broken the mould. She’s a clairvoyant and interested in all things alternative and psychic and got engaged to her Shaman partner back in June. On 8 November, the exact date of the Lunar Eclipse, she announced the surprising news (the Eclipse on the Mercury – Uranus opposition) that she is giving up royal duties in favour of starting her own complementary medicine business.
Her Virgo (health) Sun is exactly conjunct Pluto (positive face is all about depth healing) in the 7th, the house of the significant other. 7th House planets are a very common feature in the horoscopes of those involved with healing or counseling work, ie creating one to one relationships with their patients.
With an Aquarius Ascendant that gives her a Leo Descendant, so the Sun is also the significator for her fiancé. Her Moon is at 2 Scorpio (the Solar Eclipse degree, conjunct Venus at the same degree) in the 10th House of career and status.

CAMILLA
For those who have natal planets or Angles at both of the Eclipse degrees this is a period of huge change and transition. Camilla has Chiron at 2 Scorpio (exactly conjunct the Solar Eclipse) and Jupiter at 17 Scorpio (opposite the Lunar Eclipse at 16 Taurus).
Charles who turns 74 today has his Moon at 0 Taurus conjunct the North Node at 3 Taurus. He has a 1st House Pluto at 16 Leo (square the Lunar Eclipse) in mutual reception with his Sun at 22 Scorpio.
The coronation date has been set for 6 May, which puts the Sun at 16 Taurus on that day. If you were wondering, as I have been, if Charles had consulted an astrologer for this auspicious occasion my guess is that he didn’t as there’s also a retrograde Mercury in Taurus on that date, and who in their right mind would choose that?
Pluto (one of Scorpio’s planets) will also be SR – Stationary Retrograde, see box below – exactly square his Moon. What could possibly go wrong?? I’ll obviously be talking a lot more about the astrology for both of them and the coronation nearer the time.

WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK?
Here’s your “at a glance” for the current celestial activity, another busy week with some major aspect being formed on nearly every day –
Tuesday 15 November
- Mercury 26 Scorpio sextile Pluto 26 Capricorn 02.26
- Sun 22 Scorpio trine Neptune 22 Pisces 03.45
- Venus 28 Scorpio trine Jupiter 28 Pisces 09.37
Wednesday 16 November
- Venus ingress Sagittarius 06.10
- Mercury 28 Scorpio trine Jupiter 28 Pisces 15.44
Thursday 17 November
- Mercury ingress Sagittarius 08.43
Friday 18 November
- Sun 26 Scorpio sextile Pluto 26 Capricorn 21.36
Saturday 19 November
- Mars (retrograde) 22 Gemini square Neptune 22 Pisces 15.43
Monday 21 November
- Sun 28 Scorpio trine Jupiter 28 Pisces 04.08
Tuesday 22 November
- Sun ingress Sagittarius 08.22
From this list we can immediately see that the Sun, Mercury and Venus are now all finishing their journeys through Scorpio and then heading into the next sign of Sagittarius. This means that they’ve all been making the same aspects to the other slower moving planets. Here’s the sequence that completes for all three this week –
- Opposite Uranus in Taurus
- Square Saturn in Aquarius
- Trine Neptune in Pisces
- Sextile Pluto in Capricorn
- Trine Jupiter in Pisces
This is something of a rollercoaster, those first four planets are the heavy mob, and also let’s not forget that the dominance of Scorpio takes us into the realm of our deepest feelings or fears. None of this is for the fainthearted.
Remember that consecutive signs work as opposites. So at the moment for example the previous sign of Libra Cardinal Air is about partnership, sharing, balancing acts and Venusian pleasures, the next sign of Sag Mutable Fire is about truth, exuberance, learning, freedom and love of life. In the middle of these signs we have Scorpio, sign of Fixed Water, ruling death/rebirth, secrecy, sexuality, intensity and power.
So the finale for all three planets this week is the harmonious trine to Jupiter, the Greater Benefic, dignified in his own feminine sign of Pisces (his masculine sign is Sag) and now stationing (appearing to come to a standstill in the skies) in readiness for turning direct next Wednesday. This paints a powerful picture of turning tides, everything crossed for Ukraine, and in your own life pay close attention to the things that “come good”, the things that bring results, rewards or revelations.
I’ll be talking more about this next week but for now note that this string of aspects to Jupiter is paving the way to the big turning point that could be a game-changer in a myriad of ways.
Jupiter’s concerns and the things to look out for include –
- Expansion – anything that makes your world bigger and better
- Opportunity, lucky breaks, often of the 11th hour variety, revelation of the silver linings in current problems or challenges
- The best thing that could happen, even if we don’t know yet know it is
- Liberation, escape routes
- Generosity – giving or receiving
- Celebrations, an upswing in mood, hopefulness and optimism
- Long distance travel
- Higher education, anything that expands your mental horizons
- Progress with legal matters
- Publishing
RETROGRADE MARS
Apart from the busy Scorpio journeys going on we also have a key moment with Mars who is currently retrograde in Gemini, and will in fact end up spending 7 months in this sign instead of the usual 2 months. There’s still a long way to go. In the process he makes three aspects to Saturn and to Neptune. This week it’s the middle square to Neptune to look out for –
- 12 October Mars – Neptune at 23 Gemini/Pisces
- 30 October Mars turns retrograde at 25 Gemini
- 19 November Mars – Neptune at 22 Gemini/Pisces
- 12 January 2023 Mars turns direct at 8 Gemini
- 14 March 2023 Mars – Neptune at 25 Gemini/Pisces
This is not an easy combination. Fiery Mars in conflict with watery Neptune is the proverbial wet blanket. It can also show literally with wet weather and the hazards of flooding. Our weather forecast here is rain and thunderstorms for at least the next ten days, great, the garden will be a mud bath and the dogs will be tramping it through the house!
Talking of animals, I looked back to the first square on 12 October and it was horrible. It was when my old cat fell ill and had to spend two days at the vet on a drip, for meds and rehydration. Neptune also rules pharmaceuticals as well as fluids. Psychologically Neptune’s realm is anxiety or grief, being natural ruler of the 12th House, the Vale of Tears. She pulled through, unbelievably, and has been fine since, still living her best 9th life but I’ll be keeping an even closer eye on her.
At the same time I also got the news that a loved cousin had died who, like me, was also a twin. So it was a time of sadness to hear about Helen and floods of memories about Sue. So am not exactly looking forward to this second square, but it is what it is.
Look back to your own life events around 12 October, especially if you have planets or Angles at or very close to 22/23 degrees of Gemini/Pisces or the other Mutable signs of Sag/Virgo. This coming square may be the next chapter.
At a universal level and as Mars is also retrograde this time look out for themes of backtracking, confusion or aimlessness. Try not to drown your sorrows as Neptune also rules the booze! And as Mars is retrograde in Mercury’s sign I would also be sure to check your facts and not to act on any kind of assumptions. Clarity is crucial in all our dealings.
I’ll leave you with the bigger picture in terms of the current retrograde cycles in the order of when the planets are turning direct. The first two have already made the turn, Jupiter next week, Neptune and Chiron in December, then the faster moving personal planets of Mars and Mercury in the middle of January, and Uranus being the last just a few days later.
The end column gives the dates and positions of the next time these planets turn retrograde so, with the exception of Mercury who turns retrograde every three months, we’ll have everything moving in the right direction from mid Jan to the beginning of May (Pluto) and even then there’ll be another 6 weeks before the next planet turns (Saturn) in the middle of June. This doesn’t obviously equate to a problem free world, but it does indicate the possibility of steady progress.
2022 – 3 | Turns Retrograde | Turns Direct | Next Retrograde |
Pluto | 29 April 28.36 Capricorn | 8 Oct 26.07 Capricorn | 1 May 0.22 Aquarius |
Saturn | 4 June 25.15 Aquarius | 23 Oct 18.35 Aquarius | 17 June 7.12 Pisces |
Jupiter | 28 July 8.43 Aries | 23 Nov 28.48 Pisces | 4 Sept 15.34 Taurus |
Neptune | 28 June 25.26 Pisces | 3 Dec 22.39 Pisces | 30 June 27.41 Pisces |
Chiron | 20 July 16.26 Aries | 24 Dec 11.56 Aries | 24 July 19.58 Aries |
Mars | 30 Oct 25.36 Gemini | 12 Jan 8.08 Gemini | 6 Dec 2024 6.10 Leo |
Mercury | 29 Dec 24.19 Capricorn | 18 Jan 8.09 Capricorn | 21 Apr 15.36 Taurus |
Uranus | 24 August 18.55 Taurus | 22 Jan 14.56 Taurus | 29 Aug 23.04 Taurus |
Venus | 23 July 28.35 Leo |
Next week it’s pure Sagittarius with a Mercury – Venus conjunction in this sign, the Sun’s arrival immediately followed by a New Moon at 1 Sag, and Jupiter turning direct. Bring it on!
Until next week, with love from Greece
Joanna
