The Mars – Uranus Finale
So, to cut to the chase, Mars has been a headliner in the astrological news for the past few months as he’s been through a retrograde period and then entered Aquarius for the second time last week, (Tuesday 11th September).
Retrograde planets inevitably repeat patterns three times – once going forwards, secondly going retrograde and thirdly moving direct again.
Mars’s pattern has been the square to wild card Uranus. Firstly on 16 May as soon as Uranus made his major shift into Taurus and then again on 2 August when the two planets were both at 2 degrees of their respective signs.
This now repeats for the third and final time:
Wednesday 19 September
-
Mars 2 Aquarius square Uranus 2 Taurus 00.01
If you have planets or angles between 0 and 2 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) this event is closing a significant and probably extremely rocky cycle. Perception of choice is extremely important and, for some, the goal now is to remove from your life whatever is causing ongoing instability, stress or unnecessary drama.
Otherwise look out for the finale of changes that have been a long time coming, and which may have been repeatedly delayed or sabotaged in some way. This aspect is often the spoke in the wheel or the thing that pulls the rug from under your feet. Wherever you’ve been resistant to change, outer events may well now conspire to force your hand!
And without wishing to be alarmist also take extra care when you’re out and about, read the road ahead when driving, kill your speed, avoid risk taking and make your home a safe place, especially if you have children. Sharp instruments or electrical goods are at the top of that list.
Once that aspect has cleared there’s a lull that feels both calm and industrious. The Sun is finishing the journey through Virgo, alongside Mercury. There’s a chance to catch up on all jobs and admin, to arrange appointments, have important conversations or make decisions, especially on Thursday as the Sun – Mercury conjunction will then be “applying”, ie becoming exact, which happens in the early hours of Friday:
Friday 21 September
-
Sun conjunct Mercury 28 Virgo 02.53
This aspect is also fabulous for getting hold of the right information, for finally hearing news or feedback that you’ve been waiting for and also for your own insights and understanding.
As the aspect falls at the end of the sign it’s also great for closure, or for matters that end one cycle and start another. So pay special attention to the ideas that surface at this time as they can be developed.
Psychologically this is also a time for healthy and conscious choices – which is empowering if only because it’s the opposite to victim role where we can perceive only things happening “to us”. If you’re in any situation that feels wrong or which is making you unhappy then starts with, What is my part in this? Honest answers will be packed with information and pointers for the way ahead.
The week finishes with both Mercury and the Sun heading into Libra within a few hours of each other:
Sunday 23 September
-
Mercury ingress Libra 23.03
Monday 24 September
-
Sun ingress Libra 02.55
The Sun of course will be in this sign for the ensuing four weeks but Mercury is moving fast, and will be whizzing through the whole of Libra in just over two weeks (moving into Scorpio 10 October).
However, speed is not the hallmark of these ingresses. They don’t have an easy start to the journey through Libra as both will square up to Saturn as their first aspect, and I’ll be talking more about this next week.
In the meantime bear that obstacle in mind and make it a reason to make this week even more productive before those speed bumps slow us down.
And here’s a flavor of the Sun and Mercury in Libra taken from Be Your Own Astrologer:
The Libra Nature
The constant weighing of the scales, listing the pros and cons, considering all angles and the desire to arrive at a balanced judgment all lie at the root of Libra’s reputation for dithering and indecision.
When you have a conversation that is peppered with “on the other hand”, “all things considered”, “to be fair” and “what do you think?” you’ll know you are talking to a Libran.
As with all the air signs they love to chat but they especially love to bounce their thoughts and ideas off others and collect different views and opinions.
The famous Scales also symbolize the two sides to a partnership and most Librans are natural diplomats. They have huge amounts of charm and their powers of negotiation, arbitration and compromise are second to none.
On a good day they are sweetness and light personified. However, when ruffled, tired or unfulfilled Librans suffer from a lack of purpose or sense of urgency and can be seriously cranky, argumentative and chaotic. Their opposite sign of Aries embodies the directness and immediacy that Libra struggles to acquire.
Mercury in Libra
The communication planet in the air sign of the Scales speaks in measured, mellow and often beautiful tones. Here is the born talker and, for that reason, they don’t do being alone.
Give the Mercury in Libra person someone to talk to, rather than talk at, and they are happy. Whether it’s chewing the cud over cups of tea or glasses of wine, or debating important issues, they can talk for the world. Time slips away and they are not best known for their punctuality.
This Mercury carefully weighs up words and thoughts so at best this is the diplomat, brilliant at seeing all sides to an issue and appreciating everyone’s point of view. They loathe confrontation and are the ultimate smoothers and soothers.
At worst it’s the hopeless procrastinator. I’ll think about it, I need to mull it over, I’ll do it later, tomorrow, what do you think I should do – and on and on.
Libra is known for indecision and, for Mercury in this sign, reaching the point of understanding or especially action can be a tortuous and confusing process, driving themselves and their loved ones nuts in the process. In the words of one client, “It’s not making the decision that’s the problem, it’s sticking to it. I am constantly changing my mind.”
Only when they have made a decision that they are able to stick to, or when a decision is made for them, can they then be at peace – until the next dilemma.
Until next week,
With love from Greece
