GREEK ISLAND SUMMER SCHOOL 2024
I haven’t had the time to look at package holidays, a deceptively time consuming job and some of the info may not be out there yet, but Easy Jet have released flights for next season. This used to happen end of October but everything seems to be getting earlier and earlier, it seems to be a post pandemic thing.
So the courses for Summer School have been decided. There isn’t a lot of leeway in the dates I can choose as the second half of May is hampered by half term price hikes, July and August are way too hot and after the end of September it’s a bit of a lottery with the weather and most of the island is starting to close down by then anyway for the end of the season.
So the first two weeks of June and September are ideal, out of school holiday time and perfect weather –
- There will be the usual maximum of 10 places for each week and a small increase in the course fee, the first since pre pandemic
- All courses will be £375.00, with a non-refundable deposit of £100.00 to secure your place. Your deposit also gives you first dibs on the beach studios.
- Also as usual the course dates given are the day you fly in – flights back the following Wednesday. All courses start on the Thursday morning of each week, and there are four study days and two free days.
I’m already taking bookings so here are the options –
- You can put your name down with a deposit for a definite place
- OR you can put your name down as a provisional booking without a deposit, this doesn’t commit you but means that you get first refusal as the weeks start to fill up
Here are the scheduled choices, links to the website for course descriptions coming soon –

WHAT IS YOUR LEVEL?
In teacher training, for any subject, you come across the terms “true beginner” or “false beginner”. True beginner means that you don’t know anything at all about the subject, false beginner means that you already know something about the subject, you may even know more than you think you do, but your knowledge is sketchy or disorganised.
After reading the course descriptions, if you’re unsure about your suitability for any of the courses, please do get in touch directly with Elisabeth, Chris or myself to discuss. As a general guide you’ll be fine if you consider yourself anywhere on the scale from false beginner to intermediate. If you’re a true beginner you may need to do some prep in advance of the course.
ALL COURSES INCLUDE WORK ON YOUR OWN HOROSCOPE – so please provide your data when booking a place so that your chart can be prepared in advance by the relevant tutor.
5 JUNE
TAROT & ASTROLOGY with Joanna
This will be my fourth time of running this popular course and the date will coincide roughly with the publication of my book on the same subject.
Any client’s first question is, What’s going to happen? Any client’s second question is, When is it going to happen? As my interest in the tarot sprang directly from my astrological work I love to use the two together, especially to show how the horoscope reflects the tarot spread and then to introduce accurate timing.
Re the tarot component this course is ideal for you if you have some familiarity with your cards, you’ve started to experiment with spreads or asking questions, but you need a deeper understanding of how the tarot really works and more input on card meanings so that you can choose the best spreads and arrive at accurate interpretations and predictions.
Re the astrology component being a true beginner wouldn’t exclude you from this course but you would need to do some prep in advance. For example, you would need to know your glyphs – the symbols for the signs and planets, which are easy to learn – and have some keywords for their essential meanings.
You wouldn’t have to do a complete beginner’s course in advance but, if required, a couple of modules from my online beginners astrology material should be enough to prepare you. The point is to learn how to use astrology as another extremely powerful string to your predictive bow so there isn’t enough time on this course to learn the craft from scratch.
The course includes learning how to use the tarot for your own questions and also working on your own horoscope so please send me your data when booking a place.

QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS – Horary Astrology with Elisabeth Brooke
https://mailchi.mp/4d1901311602/magical-herbalism-autumn-equinox-newsletter
Will I get the job?
Should I buy this house?
Is he having an affair?
What is wrong with me?
Who stole my parcel and where is it?
Should I start my own business?
Did you know there’s a whole branch of astrology related to answering questions? Horary astrology uses precise rules which can give yes or no answers to questions. Horary is a great tool in the astrologer’s toolkit as it provides both practical solutions and awareness into deeper motives. This craft can give good timing measures, show directions, offer advice on decisions, and answer the real question a person is asking.
During the four-day course we will cover the following:
- The rules of Horary, if a chart is ‘radical or not’ and what the planets, signs and houses mean.
- Fixed stars, important degrees, time, and distance and when a chart cannot be read.
- Questions about property and houses.
- Questions about theft and loss.
- Questions about education.
- Questions about work, career, and status.
- Questions about health and which common remedies which are indicated.
No previous knowledge assumed. My classes are always mixed level which I have found an enriching format for both newcomers and those who have some knowledge as we can share not only our astrological knowledge but our life experience.
Students are encouraged to bring a question to the group which we will answer as a group. My teaching style is collaborative, there will be lots of opportunity for discussion and questions and the content will be aimed at the level of the student group.

INTERMEDIATE ASTROLOGY: HOW TO DO READINGS – with Joanna
I’m delighted to announce that Chris Mitchell will be back for the second year running. Chris’s area of expertise is the history of astrology and he’s a tutor on the Cultural Astronomy and Astrology MA course at the University of Wales, so this is a wonderful opportunity for new or returning students.
Again, being a true beginner wouldn’t exclude you from this course, but you would need to do the advance prep and learning re glyphs and essential keywords.
Chris writes:
As modern astrologers, we’re used to drawing up charts in seconds on a computer, and using numerous techniques, outer planet transits and a psychological language to work with our clients. Ours is a rich and subtle art. How, then, did medieval astrologers manage with just seven planets and five aspects? Was theirs simply a limited cut-down version of what we have available to us in modern astrology? How did a society rife with political intrigue and power struggles, and the Black Death, do meaningful astrology without Pluto?
In this course, we’ll discover some of the richness of medieval astrology. Despite the lack of outer planets and modern techniques, medieval astrologers had a surprisingly large toolkit of methods lost to modern astrology: dignity, almutens, Arabic Parts, lunations and profections, to name but a few.
The recent resurgence of modern translations of ancient texts mean these fascinating methods have been rediscovered and can be adapted to our modern lives too. Join us and find out how you can incorporate these rich techniques into your own studies.

UNLOCKING THE SECRETS OF MEDIEVAL ASTROLOGY – with Chris Mitchell
So you’ve been studying astrology, possibly for a long time, you can find your way around a horoscope in terms of recognising planets in signs in houses, but you glaze over when faced with the challenge of arriving at meaning, either at a natal or predictive level.
You are not alone! This is every student’s experience, and matters are not helped these days by the tons of information on line that is often incredibly misleading. It might seem to you that the more you read the more confused you get, and again you’re not alone. Information is not the same as meaning.
That is why I now refer to my weekly blog as the Teaching Blog, it started out for students like you, and now always includes points of craft and techniques of traditional astrology, handed down to us through the generations. It’s our job to keep it all going.
This course is designed to show you how to zoom in on what’s important in each individual horoscope. You’ll learn how to “unpack” a chart, for yourself and then for others. I’ll show you how it’s possible to go straight to key events, in the past, present and future, and how to communicate all of this to a client in an hour and a quarter, even if your client doesn’t know any astrology themselves. This is a skill that I’ve honed over the years and one that anyone can learn.
So this course is not suitable for true beginners but if you want to discuss your own level do just get in touch.
Here are the next 2 signs in my series of interpretations on the signs when seen on the Ascendant. These are taken from my book Essential Astrology which has just been relaunched by Cico Books –
Until next time, with love from Greece
Joanna
RISING SIGNS – AQUARIUS & PISCES
AQUARIUS ASCENDANT
With an Aquarius Ascendant, regardless of the Sun sign, the ruling planet of the horoscope is Saturn, with Uranus as the co-ruler. These planets signs and houses will be a primary consideration in the process of interpretation.
Aquarius Ascendant/or Saturn or Uranus in any sign in the First House:
Physical characteristics: Saturn types tend to stockiness or heaviness, Uranus types often the opposite due to hyperactivity; piercing wide set eyes, often a startling blue in fair skinned types, high forehead, long straight nose, wide mouth and big smile.
Manner and speech: can come across as inquisitive, indifferent, original or unusual. Individuals with this rising sign, and especially a first house Uranus, often have experiences early on in life that set them apart. This in turn makes for strong personalities who are very much a law unto themselves. This rising sign also denotes an incisive intelligence but some emotional jetlag, often from a “head over heart” upbringing. The initial response to new people or situations is extremely analytical, sometimes giving the impression of distance or coolness.
Health: Mostly physically robust although prone to problems with circulation or injuries to the lower leg or ankles. The mind – body connection is particularly important, susceptible to acute depression when “split off” from their authentic selves.
Famous Aquarius Ascendants:
- Barack Obama
- Carl Jung
- David Bowie
- J K Rowling
- Jay Leno
- Jim Morrison
- Matt Damon
- Orlando Bloom
- Roseanne Barr
- Russell Crowe
- Sylvia Plath
- Whoopi Goldberg
PISCES ASCENDANT
With a Pisces Ascendant, regardless of the Sun sign, the ruling planet of the horoscope is Jupiter, with Neptune as the co-ruler. These planets signs and houses will be a primary consideration in the process of interpretation.
Pisces Ascendant/or Jupiter or Neptune in any sign in the First House
Physical characteristics: Usually tall or big boned, face tends to roundness and softness, liquid eyes, generally wide set, sometimes protruding especially in the men, highly mobile or malleable features, a gentle aura.
Manner and speech: can come across as charming, vague, vulnerable or compassionate. The approach to life and relationships is extremely tentative or hopelessly idealistic. Individuals with this rising sign, and especially a first house Neptune, can be impressionable and suggestible. Often there are early experiences of loss or of being exposed to a harsh reality that leaves them at the mercy of others. They understand suffering and find themselves through marine, musical, artistic or altruistic vocations, or lose themselves through escapism or the inability to heal the victim’s wounds.
Health: A sensitive constitution that needs peace of mind, body and spirit. When troubled suffers from insomnia or stress related illnesses, extremely susceptible to adverse reactions to drugs, alcohol or anesthesia, prone to problems or injuries to the feet.
Famous Pisces Ascendants:
- Billie Eilish
- Caroline of Hanover (daughter of Grace Kelly)
- Deepak Chopra
- Demi Moore
- Dr Phil McGraw
- George Clooney
- Gwyneth Paltrow
- Michael Jackson
- Pope Benedict XVI
- Robert Redford
