Hope you’re enjoying a very Happy Easter weekend, wherever you may be in the world. This year the dates coincide so it’s Easter here in Greece too, the biggest event of the Greek year, far bigger than Christmas. Once these celebrations are over then it will be eyes down for the new season in all seriousness, the airport is open and the summer weather has arrived.
At the moment it’s bright blue skies, in the mid 20’s and the magical fireflies are flashing everywhere in the evenings. The direct translation of the Greek word for fireflies is “lit up bottoms”!
Well the last few months have been tortuous. That’s not to say that there haven’t been some bright spots, but generally speaking the astrology has been reflecting the fact that we’ve been on a long and winding road. This has been down to a retrograde Mars, spending some time in the early degrees of fiery Leo but mostly in the water sign of Cancer, which is Mars’ sign of “fall” – most difficult sign. Mars likes to blaze forwards, the sign of the Crab is cautious and moves sideways. It’s a mismatch.
Here’s the timeline –
- 5 October 2024 – enters shadow 17.01 Cancer (starts slowing down)
- 4 November – enters Leo for the 1st time
- 6 December – gets as far as 06.10 Leo and then turns retrograde
- 6 January – slides back into Cancer
- 24 February – turns direct at 17.01 Cancer
- 18 April – enters Leo for the 2nd time
- 2 May – comes out of shadow at 6.10 Leo (back up to full speed)
The big news then is that Mars is now back in Leo, and this time he means it. No going back to Cancer for another couple of years. Mars the fiery planet, out of his sign of fall and into a fire sign, is going to set a whole new vibe. The fuse is already lit. This is one of the subjects I’ll be covering in the weekly blog, going out today as usual.
Alongside the Mars journey we’ve also had the rare event of Mercury and Venus being retrograde at the same time. Venus (2 March – 13 April) and then Mercury (15 March – 7 April), so both have now turned direct, hurray, and this week brings a fanfare as Mercury comes out of shadow next weekend, so less than a week to go before the Winged Messenger gets back to full speed. This is Good News in terms of all Mercurial matters – information, decisions, travel, connections, and everything that sits under that huge umbrella of communication and transport.
Along the way to Mercury’s big moment we’re going to have the Sun lighting up the Mars finale with Pluto (the third and final opposition, first one was 3 November 2024) and Venus meeting up with Saturn (the third and final conjunction, first one was 19 January).
Neither of these combinations are easy, but at least they’re about outcomes. In other words, two more very long timelines coming to a conclusion, just as we arrive at the Taurus New Moon. Here’s how it all plays out during the coming week –

This course is based on my book and tarot deck, The Astrology Tarot, and the split in terms of studying the two subjects is about 75% tarot and 25% astrology. It’s beyond the scope of the course to work with actual horoscopes, apart from looking at your own, but I’ll teach you some tricks of the trade that will show you how just a little astrology can enrich your readings, especially with regard to arriving at accurate timings.
