The Astrology Blog – w/b 9 December 2013
Mercury, planet of all communication, is now up to full speed in Sagittarius. This is picture perfect for getting up to speed yourself with Christmas cards/gifts, especially those that you’re sending overseas as Sag rules all things foreign. Anyone special in your thoughts? Now’s the time to get in touch.
Mercury makes only one aspect this week which is a trine (harmonious) to Uranus, exact around 17.00 GMT tomorrow. Compared to the emotional, slippery and energy draining square to Neptune at the end of last week this is a shot in the arm. It feels fresh, crisp, action orientated and possibly dramatic. Uranus loves to flavor life with the unexpected and the unusual, and tends to signal events that unfold suddenly or even totally out of the blue.
Business wise these first two days of the week are ideal for admin in all its shapes and guises. Uranus rules technology so emails are at the top of the list, sending or receiving. You may well hear from someone you’ve been waiting on or long dragged out decision making processes will come to an abrupt conclusion. Don’t be afraid to push for answers.
The rest of the week is then dominated by the landmark trine between Jupiter and Saturn, exact at 00.01 on Friday. These two slower moving planets first made this aspect back in July and will repeat the aspect for the third and final time in May of next year.
This halfway point of course marks the passing of Nelson Mandela, his memorial service and then lying in state before the funeral at the weekend. Again, this is picture perfect astrology:
· Jupiter – planet of the international and also wisdom, education, liberation and world view – is currently in Cancer, his sign of “exaltation”. This is Mandela’s natal placing – he was born 18 July in the sign of Cancer (home, family, patriotism) but the dominant aspect of his horoscope is a Jupiter – Pluto conjunction also in this sign, encapsulating his life’s purpose of reform for his homeland and the huge sacrifice of personal freedom in order to fight against the principle of white supremacy and to win human rights for the African people.
· Saturn – planet of authority, duty, solemnity, restriction, endings – ultimately death – currently in Scorpio, sign of power, rebirth and all transformative processes.
As around 70 world leaders all flock to South Africa Mandela’s legacy will be reiterated around the globe, and will live forever. The most powerful tribute to his personal nature, which I’ve read many times over the last few days, is how he was known for his remarkable lack of bitterness.
For me that sums up the universal message of the Jupiter – Saturn trine. If you are nursing any kind of bitterness or resentment now is the time to address it, heal it and let it go. It doesn’t matter how hard done by you might feel, releasing bitterness is the single best thing you can do for your wellbeing.
Jupiter and Saturn are opposing principles. In a nutshell, Jupiter is expansion and “yes”, Saturn is restriction and “no”. But as they come together in this harmonious pattern, and in water signs (element of the emotions), differences can be overcome and unified. Personal boundaries are hugely important at this time. I think it’s about giving what you can, but learning to say no when you can’t, to play by the rules but not at the expense of compassion. Now is the time to restructure any relationship or area of your life that has not been working, and to focus on compromises that are truly viable.
