What’s happening this week?
We marked the Autumn Equinox last night as the Sun entered Libra. I am not going to dwell on the tragic news headlines other than to say that the Equinox also marks the close of a very heavy cycle and the Libra lessons are now paramount.
The sign of the Scales is associated in everyone’s mind with indecision – the constant balancing act of this or that, weighing up the pros and cons, the shall I/shan’t I, the resulting procrastination and so on. Herein lies the “lazy Libra” tag and it’s true that too much thinking can actually end up in total inertia.
However, the other side to this sign is that it correlates to the 7th house of the horoscope – the sector of the chart that rules the significant other. Here we find marriage, business partnerships and all important one to one relationships. The Scales are then not just seen as an intricate balancing act but as the two sides to a relationship – and how every action of one side affects the other. The positive Libran characteristics are therefore cooperation, negotiation and diplomacy. Fittingly this sign is ruled by the love planet Venus. The ultimate Libra lesson is about love that truly values equality, not about being passive and overly dependent on others. This all makes me think again of David Richo’s work (thank you Lindsey for introducing me!) and how he identifies the five A’s that lie at the heart of healthy relating:
To what extent do we all genuinely practice these in our day to day lives? What better time to add another A of “awareness” as the Sun travels through Libra these next few weeks.
Venus is also a key player this week. She’s still travelling through intense and complex Scorpio, her sign of detriment, so in some ways good emotional health can start with identifying what is unhealthy in your relationship – eg over dependency, possessiveness, jealousy, the need to control and so on. Or, as someone said to me this week, “marriage is the only institution that requires you to sleep with the enemy.” Oh dear! If any of this stuff resonates with you this is a great week to start tackling your issues as Venus makes one minor and two major aspects:
· Venus semi sextile Mars – Wednesday, exact at 03.54 BST
· Venus trine Jupiter – Thursday, exact at 22.02 BST
· Venus square Mars – Saturday, exact at 14.33 BST
Of course, relating issues are not just about love stuff. Wherever a relationship is out of balance – by which I mean where this is creating tension, sadness, resentment, discontent etc – the backdrop of the Libra Sun reminds us that it takes two to sort things out.
