Weekly, starting today:
Monthly, September stars now up:
What’s happening this week?
One of the most important ways that we make sense of the astrological picture is to note aspects. What are these? Aspects are the nature of the relationship formed between two planets as they align with each other. The major aspects fall into two groups:
· Conjunction – reaching the same degree in the same sign
· Trine – reaching the same degree but 4 signs apart
· Sextile – reaching the same degree but 2 signs apart
· Oppositions – reaching the same degree in opposite signs
· Squares – reaching the same degree but 3 signs apart
There are also a whole stack of what are referred to as the minor aspects, and one of these is in action at the beginning of this week – the awkwardly named “quinqunx”, sometimes also called the “inconjunct”. This aspect takes shape when two planets are 5 signs apart, and is indeed awkward in nature, symbolizing a mismatch, a blind spot, a sort of “ne’er the twain shall meet”.
Mars is quinqunx Neptune in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and the Sun is quinqunx Uranus in the early hours of Wednesday morning. I could speculate endlessly about what these might mean but the main message is that there will be more to an uncomfortable situation than meets the eye or that incompatibility issues will need to be addressed. Avoid finding the hat and making it fit, get a niggling health issue properly checked out and don’t plough on regardless with any matter that doesn’t feel right. Intuition can be a wonderful thing.
Moving on, the rest of the week is more straightforward. A minor aspect between Mercury and Venus (helpful or loving talks, info, agreements that pave the way to better things) in the early hours of Thursday is followed by the New Moon in Virgo (when the Sun and the Moon unite in the same sign, exact at 12.37 BST). As I said last week this sign is known for perfectionism, a characteristic that is linked to Virgo’s rulership of skills and crafts. Such expertise requires patience and painstaking exactitude, a typical Virgo’s forte, and in this area their discrimination, precision and keen eye for detail come into their own.
New Moons, new starts – anything that takes a leaf out of Virgo’s book will fit the bill. Perfecting a skill, learning new ones, analyzing what your job or business needs, committing to a new project or establishing healthy or industrious routines all capture the right vibe.
Benefic Jupiter supports this New Moon, with the Sun sextile Jupiter exact on Saturday (14.48 BST). Jupiter is the planet of good fortune and rules learning, education, law and justice, long distance travel and all things foreign. His principle is expansion – anything that stretches you, or liberates you, will make your world a bigger and better place. In brief, ideas or opportunities that surface during the second half of the week will be good for you. Finally remember to ask not just what, but who is good for you? Look out for the arrival of a new face, especially someone with the particular skills that you need, someone who can lift you out of the tangled web of details and see the bigger picture.
