4 February 2013 – This week’s Astrology

There are some weeks when life seems to be dragging its feet, and others when everything seems to be happening all at once. This week is the latter. New cycles are a theme as Venus changed sign at the weekend (into Aquarius) and aligns easily with Uranus and Jupiter midweek. This picks out Wednesday as good news day or as the point at which something drops easily or suddenly into place.

As ever, there’s a “but” as Mars now in Pisces, with Mercury following tomorrow afternoon and both headed to meet up with Neptune, muddies the water. It’s said that the ability to “tolerate ambiguity” – in other words, to be able to juggle contradictions rather than insisting on everything making perfect sense with totally predictable outcomes – is the mark of emotional maturity. I get the feeling that many of us will be tested on that one this week, or in the next few weeks, as Mercury is going to be swimming backwards and forwards through Pisces until mid April.

More on that as it unfolds. In the meantime, this week reminds us that joy/sadness are the two sides of the same coin. Or as my colleague Sally Kirkman says this week on the intro to this week’s astrology: “This is why Neptune is associated with saints and sinners: you can ‘lose yourself’ in spirituality or divine inspiration through music, poetry, art and film or you can spiral downward into addiction, another form of escape.”

The weekend brings the New Moon in Aquarius – sign of the collective but also of individual brilliance. However, coinciding with Mars/Jupiter and Venus/Saturn squares (obstacles/challenges) it would seem that the most effective fresh starts will be the ones characterized by acceptance rather than trying to blast through what can’t be changed.

26 November 2012 – This week’s Astrology

Yes, today is the day that happens only three times a year – it’s the day that Mercury turns direct after being retrograde for three weeks. Mercury makes the turn at 22.49 GMT but you don’t have to wait until tonight! Untying knots starts right now, new information coming to light is likely to be of great significance and events over the weekend may already have made the point.

Mercury turns direct in Scorpio, a sign associated with use/abuse of power. As above so below. The BBC’s lead story this morning, “Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi is to meet senior judges to try to end a crisis sparked by issuing a decree giving him sweeping new powers.” It’s absolutely crucial for the people of Egypt that this dictatorship in the making is addressed and halted right now.

Scorpio also rules life/death/rebirth issues and the link between physical and mental health, and is therefore connected to healing/surgery, and emotional healing in terms of making the unconscious conscious. Money issues are in there too, but in a way that recognizes money as a resource rather than money for its own sake. Struggling to make ends meet is exhausting and debt is disempowering. If you need to turn a financial situation around the decisions and moves you make now will count for a lot.

All of the Scorpio themes are especially strong as Venus and Saturn unite in this sign in the early hours of tomorrow morning, and the two planets that rule this sign – Mars and Pluto – unite in Capricorn tomorrow evening. Throw in the Lunar Eclipse in Gemini on Wednesday and it’s an intense first half of the week. The good news is that Venus then steadies the picture. In a nutshell? Whatever your own personal struggle may be there’s an intensifying going on first, a message being rammed home, but it’s the path to deep healing, and an awakening to the awesome power of deeply felt and considered decisions.

19 November 2012 – This week’s Astrology

Hi everyone

Firstly a big thank you for supporting the weekly column. As you know it was re-launched at the end of August but you may not know that this also involved restarting the Facebook “likes”. So if you originally “liked” this column on Facebook your vote no longer shows. In the spirit of retrograde Mercury when “re” words count for a lot, if you want to “re-like” you’ll find the icon at the end of the column. Many thanks!

Yes Mercury is still rewinding through secretive and complex Scorpio and will be for another week. Rethink, re-assess and if in doubt say or do nothing. Bide your time or buy yourself time with regard to all important decisions, especially ones that relate to issues that you feel very strongly about. Scorpio is associated with passionate feelings – nothing wishy-washy about this sign – but also with things that are hidden from us. Take special note of events this coming weekend when Mercury will be “stationing” (getting ready to start moving forwards again).

Otherwise all the astro-action is packed into Thursday/Friday when the love planet Venus also arrives in Scorpio and Mars crosses swords with spanner-in-the-works Uranus. This doesn’t mean that things can’t get resolved but it’s a volatile picture and the x-factor is in there somewhere…keep your head and avoid unnecessary risks of all kinds. Mars aligns with order loving Saturn on Saturday – especially helpful as these two planets are currently in “mutual reception”, Mars being in Saturn’s sign of Capricorn, and Saturn being in Mars’s sign of Scorpio. Again, look out for new information surfacing or the input of a third party that can reveal options/moves to make that previously you may not have been aware of.

15 October 2012 – This week’s Astrology

It’s an action packed start to the week with Mars in good aspect to Uranus this morning, planet of innovation and the dramatic. My day started, as did everyone else’s here on Lefkada, with a mini hurricane blasting across the island. With thunder and lightning thrown in it was a spectacular show, but scary. For a moment I felt as if my little house was about to be uprooted and hurled over to Kansas, complete with little white dog! As above, so below… love the lead story this morning on the news of Felix Baumgartner breaking the speed of sound with his own body for capturing that Mars/Uranus crazy/brave (depending on your point of view) stunt. Love even more his words as he prepared to jump – something along the lines of you have to climb very high to understand how small you really are. He also said in the press conference that followed that at that heart stopping moment he wasn’t thinking about breaking any records, he was thinking only of his loved ones and getting home. The Wizard of Oz strikes again – there’s no place like home. Thankfully, he made it.

This picture also reflects this morning’s New Moon in Libra, sign of relationships – big R and small r. New Moons, new beginnings. There seems to be a message here that no matter what dramas may be erupting around you, it’s your relationships that really count. As always with Libra, sign of The Scales, there’s also a theme of finding balance in your life.

Finally, linking into this is a Mercury (talk) link to Venus (love), exact at 13.32 BST tomorrow. As Mercury is starting to slow down, in readiness for turning retrograde early next month, this is an aspect that will repeat next week. Heart to hearts/plans/meetings/decision processes started at this time are therefore doubly important and there will be more to come.

Thank you for supporting the weekly column, which is attracting more and more readers. Thank you especially if you’re one of those people who always forwards this blog and link to other people. 3 September 2012 – This week’s Astrology

Hi everyone

It’s an intriguing week. Let me start by saying that major aspects can often make themselves felt during the couple of days before they’re exact. For example, this morning we have Venus square Saturn (exact at 08.45 GMT). As Venus is love, money, pleasure and the sweet things of life, and as Saturn’s nature by tough aspect is to deny or delay, then any issue that is described by this aspect will probably have been especially poignant over the weekend. I’m dedicating this blog – my first on the new website – to my wonderful brother in law who will know exactly what I’m talking about.

We then move into a flurry of activity as Mercury, Mars and Pluto align with each other from around midday today until Wednesday morning. This is a promising combination for tough talk, finding answers and cracking on with any plan of action with no messing!

Venus moves into Leo on Thursday afternoon – this is not one of Venus’ recognised signs of dignity but I do like this placing. Venus in the Sun’s sign is all about the glory and vitality of love, and lessons in how to claim or give extra attention as needed. From Friday it’s yet another change of theme with jolly Jupiter taking the lead role all the way through the weekend. Enjoy but with squares to the Sun and Mercury as part of the picture it’s wise to guard against going over the top in word or deed.

Finally a huge thank you to Lynne Stainthorpe who is the mastermind behind the new website and responsible for shoving me into 21st century technology – I am in awe of your creativity and know how.
