Full Moon in Gemini

The Astrology Blog 23 Nov 2015 – a personal update from your Saturn besieged astrologer, and a “no gloss” overview of the week ahead

The Astrology Blog 23 November 2015
First of all a belated but nevertheless big thank you to all the lovely students who took part in the Venus and Mars workshops in London three weeks ago, with Ingrid Hoffman and myself. It was really lovely to see my regular students, and a real treat to see a few I hadn’t seen for years and to meet new faces. We had a fabulous weekend and more events are being planned for the New Year, so I’ll keep you posted.

Secondly, I also want to thank everyone who’s emailed me over the last couple of weeks to check that all is ok and if I haven’t got around to answering you personally I hope you’ll forgive me. It’s the first time since starting the blog several years ago that the blog has lapsed but I heard when I was still in London that my beloved brother in law (who had kissed me goodbye at the airport two weeks prior) was seriously ill, and I returned home to Greece to find him in hospital. In the time I’ve been back he’s been at home only 5 days, the rest of the time he’s been in hospital and he’s now in a clinic in Thessaloniki, many hours from home, and today has had life saving surgery. If you’ve ever had devastating illness in your own family you’ll know what we’re going through and I’ve found it impossible to concentrate on anything that isn’t directly linked to Mike and Sue, as I’m sure you’ll understand.

What’s happening this week?
It’s wonderful that so many people look forward to the blog, to the extent that it has been genuinely missed! To get us going again here’s a mini version – the main astrological events for the coming week and some brief “takes”.
All times stated in GMT

Yesterday the Sun changed sign –
Sunday Sun ingress Sagittarius (15.26)

It’s the time of year that we move away from the intensity of Scorpio and into the fiery optimism of truth seeking Sag, but the immediate road ahead is a tough one. This is because two major planets are now in conflict –
Thursday Saturn 7 degrees Sag square Neptune 7 degrees Pisces (12.19)

The Sun is playing into this heavy aspect with the exact contacts at the end of this week –
• Sunday Sun square Neptune (14.51)
• Monday (30th) Sun conjunct Saturn (00.17)

Being a Sag myself as most of you know I don’t need to dwell on how this is showing in my own life. With my Sun (and Sue’s, as we are twins) at 9 degrees these aspects are far too close for comfort. If you have planets or angles at or close to 7 degrees of Sag or Pisces – or the other mutable signs of Gemini and Virgo – then you will probably already know what shape your current challenges are taking.

Here are the usual links for checking the position of your own planets and angles:
You can also try this calculator, which lists all your planets and angles rather than bringing up the visual of the horoscope, so for non astrologers it’s easier to use.
In brief, Saturn by difficult aspect brings blocks, delays, health problems, responsibilities to others, testing times that need stamina and endurance at so many levels, and which need time and resourcefulness. Neptune by difficult aspect brings delusion, confusion, exhaustion and an over active imagination. Look out for that paranoia! So it’s absolutely vital this week to keep our feet on the floor and not to jump to any conclusions or rush into any plan of action. Hunches are more likely to be misguided than helpful and absolutely everything needs restraint and a stringent reality check. This is all the more important as the Saturn – Neptune square will repeat next year on 18 June and 10 Sept, so this is going to be a major backdrop for a long time.

Pay close attention to events unfolding in the first half of the week and think long and hard about your decisions, what you want the end result to be and who you can ask for help. This is underlined by a string of aspects from Mercury the mind planet –

Wednesday Mercury conjunct Saturn (04.58) square Neptune (07.16) and sextile Mars (16.33)
This series of aspects is paving the way to the Saturn – Neptune square and is also followed by the Full Moon in one of Mercury’s own signs –

Wednesday Full Moon at 3 degrees of Gemini (22.45)

Information coming to light at this time may not be what you want to hear, or may add complications into an already difficult mix, but you will at least have a clearer idea of what you’re dealing with. Also look out for choices. Gemini as the sign of the Twins tends to bring up issues of duality. For some this will be playing out in romantic terms as the love planets are also kicking up a lot of dust –

Monday Venus opposite Uranus (22.14)
Tuesday Mars sextile Saturn (05.20)

Wherever new agreements need to be put in place there’s a lot of negotiation to be done, or a new attraction may start in circumstances that are far from ideal. Decide what you are willing to do for love – and what you are not!
So this all adds up to a very big week in the heavens. As above, so below – look out for events that will set the tone for the immediate future, and possibly for many months to come. If you’ve committed yourself to any course of action that you now suspect is unwise then don’t hesitate to buy yourself extra time, and don’t forget that you’re allowed to change your mind. Once the Sun struggles through the Saturn – Neptune square, ie over the coming weekend, everything will start to look a lot brighter and clearer. And beware of astrology articles that glamorize this big aspect – I’ve read a few – as to come full circle the big Sag message is to get at the truth. There really is nothing to be gained by sugaring any pills or making any caps fit, so keep it real and stay safe!

I will be blogging as regularly as possible between now and Christmas but there may be some gaps,
For now love from Greece

1 December 2014 – Jupiter takes over, fresh air and famine to feast

I’ll be in London 18 December for ten days. I’ll be doing readings at the Philadelphia Association in Hampstead and I’ve now booked in an extra afternoon. Therefore there are now another 2 appointment slots available, one on Saturday 20th and one on Monday 22nd – you can reply to this email or create a new one if you’d like to find out more.

The Astrology Blog – w/b 1 December 2014

All times stated are in GMT

There’s some great astrology unfolding for the first half of December, much of which revolves around the fact that we are now in the Sagittarius time of year. This sign is ruled by Jupiter – who is currently travelling through Leo – so we have a “mutual reception”. Regular readers may remember that I talked about this phenomenon last week –

Note that Saturn is still in “mutual reception” with Pluto – that is, Saturn is travelling through Pluto’s sign of Scorpio and Pluto in turn is travelling through Saturn’s sign of Capricorn. In other words, these two planets are, in some ways, working as a team and supporting each other’s causes.
The same thing is now happening with the Sun and Jupiter – the Sun is now in Jupiter’s sign of Sag and Jupiter is in the Sun’s sign of Leo. This mutual reception will therefore last until the Sun moves on into Capricorn on 21 December. This is fabulous astrology as the Sun is the life force and the illuminator, and Jupiter is the Greater Benefic – the Good Guy of the heavens who governs luck, opportunity and all reasons to be cheerful – so to have these two planets working as a team is extremely helpful to say the least.

How might this show? Remember the as above, so below principle – and look out for the person with whom you can work as a team (personally or professionally), at what you are receiving from each other, at moves you can make to bring a matter to a positive conclusion, how you can look at a matter through someone else’s eyes and walk a mile in their shoes. Look at how your input can benefit someone else and vice versa. Look at

As well as the wonderful potential wrapped up in this mutual reception Jupiter is now also the key player in the backdrop of life. We’ve just been through the Saturn season – as the Sun, Mercury and Venus all recently in Scorpio had to struggle past this planet on his long trek through this sign – and we’re now closing the Neptune season as, again, the Sun, Mercury and Venus all made a square to Neptune in Pisces as they in turn all recently entered Sagittarius. This has all been very heavy going but the last link in the chain was in the early hours of this morning –

Monday Mercury square Neptune (04.28)

It’s followed later in the day by –

Monday Mars sextile (harmonious) Saturn (19.01)

I’ve talked enough in recent weeks about the heaviness of Saturn and the disorientation of Neptune, but this last aspect is worth noting as it’s Mars’ last one before he changes sign later this week. It’s also another mutual reception – Mars is in Saturn’s sign of Capricorn, and Saturn is in Mars’ sign of Scorpio. Also note that Mars in Capricorn is in his sign of “exaltation” – his strongest sign – and that the sextile is considered to be one of, if not the most, harmonious aspect. This ticks a lot of boxes then in terms of wrapping up a project, bringing a matter to a definite end or arriving at the point of acceptance with any concern that has been hard work. There is no more to be done. This fits perfectly for me in a positive way as tomorrow is the day that I officially sign off my new book, the final proof readings are all done and it’s all off to the printers, at long last. So if there are any mistakes gone unspotted, it will be too late! If there is any matter in your life in which “there is no more to be done” this really is a good time for letting it go.

Let’s now look forwards and welcome in the Jupiter season as the Sun, Mercury and Venus in Sag (fire sign) will all make a trine (harmonious aspect) to Jupiter in Leo (fire sign) over the next couple of weeks. One little word of warning is to note that Jupiter is “stationary retrograde”. He has been slowing down for weeks and is now stationing – appearing to come to a complete stop – at 22 degrees of Leo. He will turn retrograde (appear to be moving backwards in the heavens) next Monday and will start backtracking through Leo until next April.

This doesn’t mean that all Jupiterian things will come to a screaming halt or start to unravel but it does suggest not trusting to luck alone. The work you put in between now and next spring will count for a huge amount, especially if it’s in connection to Jupiter’s subjects of education, travel, all things foreign, publishing or legal matters. If you have planets at or close to 22 degrees of Leo this will be an especially important time for you. Any planet turning retrograde – and then turning direct again at a later date – symbolises turning points and the opening of a new cycle. This may not be obvious at the time – especially with Jupiter who loves sowing seeds – but you may look back at this time and realise that actually it was pivotal.

The Jupiter sequence starts with –

Thursday Venus trine Jupiter (19.12)

As I’m always saying I love Venus – Jupiter contacts. Who doesn’t! But as I’m a textbook Sag, happy Jupiter aspects always bring along goodies in some shape or guise. And with my birthday tomorrow this aspect will be the most important aspect in my Solar Return chart.

(What’s a Solar Return chart? This is the chart that captures the moment when the Sun returns to its exact natal position – to the degree, minute and second. This will be on your birthday, or the day before or the day after. In the “olden days” we used to have to calculate these charts with the use of logarithms as they have to be worked out with great precision. Happily these days we have software that will produce your Solar Return chart at the touch of a button. The chart is not a substitute for your natal horoscope but is a flavor or the year ahead. You can also calculate your Lunar Return charts (13 of these a year) to capture the flavor of the month ahead. These charts are a lot of fun and are often surprisingly accurate.)

Back to the Venus – Jupiter trine, what can you expect? Listen out for good news, social invites, money opportunities through work you love doing, loving generosity from or to those you care about or meeting someone who will be good for you. Single? Sit up and take notice of anyone you meet this week, the chances are they’re special and right, or expect happy developments if you’re already getting a new romance up and running.

Also as Jupiter is about to turn retrograde you can add the extra theme of going BACK to something, or picking up an opportunity that you missed first time around. Seeds that were sown in recent months, and which you thought hadn’t flowered, may now also spring to life. Going BACK to someone is also in there – this is the stuff of reconciliations.

Jupiter is also the planet of liberation – underlining the theme of letting things go for your own wellbeing – and there are other astrological events this week that signal things moving on in a positive way. These may also happen suddenly or unexpectedly, with the aspects that immediately follow the Venus – Jupiter trine –

Sun trine Uranus (22.31)
Mars ingress Aquarius (23.58)

Uranus loves to break the mould, shake us all up and bring those light bulb moments. Mars entering Aquarius – Uranus’ sign – underlines the opening of new cycles and movement – things have been very slow going with all the Saturn and Neptune dominance in recent weeks but we’ll now be reminded that nothing stays stuck forever. Mars in Aquarius is a breath of fresh air and shows you how to work clever rather than just working hard.

Again these themes are underlined over the weekend –

Mercury trine Uranus (03.45)
Full Moon at 14 degrees of Gemini (12.28)

There’s definitely a feel of change, and in ways that you would never have anticipated. But Mercury/Uranus is inspirational, the Full Moon in another air sign floods light into our understanding and reveals options – sign of the Twins indicating choices – and life could look very different by the end of the week than it did compared to the beginning. Look for things happening in doubles or multiples too. For example, if you’re job hunting, you might suddenly get offered two things at the same time.

The bottom line for this week is that famine always turns to feast eventually – may your garden grow!

The Astrology Blog – w/b 16 December 2013

The week starts with Mercury quinqunx Jupiter. Yes, it’s an awkward word and it’s an even more awkward aspect. Sometimes you’ll hear it referred to as the “inconjunct” but whatever you call it, it’s tricky. It’s formed when two planets reach the same degree but five signs apart – and they therefore share no element or mode. In fact, they have absolutely nothing in common. It’s a bit like trying to have an earnest conversation and wondering if you’re talking the same language. Let me answer that for you – you’re not!

Talk-talk Mercury in cheerful but blunt Sagittarius is known for foot-in-mouth disease. With this blind spot link to exaggeration prone Jupiter the risk is even greater of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. In fact, it’s the sort of picture that signals the risk of making something even worse. You could try to put something right, but if you get the feeling that you’re just digging yourself into a deeper and deeper hole it’s probably because you are. Better to draw a deep breath about any sensitive subject and bide your time. Also look out for crossed wires and definitely don’t believe everything you are told. Stories doing the rounds at this time are likely to be the result of one person’s version or even the result of someone twisting the truth to serve their own agenda. This applies to officialdom too so don’t be fobbed off – especially if you’re owed money, read on!

We won’t have long to wait, however, before new information or other options come flooding in. Tuesday morning brings the Full Moon in Gemini – the sign that rules the spoken and written word, and communication in all its guises. This of course is also the sign of The Twins so look out for themes of doubling up – two versions of a story, choices to be made, decisions that will require debate, problem solving of the two birds with one stone variety, how to keep both sides of a family happy – and so on.

Listen out especially for news that will get the grapevine humming as Uranus, planet of surprises, turns direct early Tuesday evening, having been retrograde since the middle of July. Even a matter that you thought was hopelessly stuck can suddenly spin around and changes can happen in a heartbeat. Note also, however, that some matters may appear to happen out of the blue but they are probably the result of events that have been unfolding since the summer, or even longer. Uranus going direct at the time of the Full Moon is a bit like the lid blowing off the pressure cooker. Something you’ve been putting up with may suddenly become unbearable or a situation/person you’d given up on could suddenly spring back to life, and into your life, with a vengeance.

By comparison the rest of the week is more low key. It’s as if we are being allowed a few days to let the dust settle, to regroup and to make plans in the light of new circumstances. This is underlined by the Sun entering goal orientated Capricorn early Saturday evening, closely followed by Venus switching to retrograde also in this sign.

Regular readers will be familiar with the phenomenon of retrograde Mercury as this happens three times a year, for three weeks at a time. Venus turns retrograde less frequently, approximately every 19 months (March 2009, October 2010, May 2012 were the most recent retrograde dates) for approximately 6 weeks at a time. This current retrograde period will end on 31 January 2014.

So, what can we expect? Firstly Venus is Aphrodite, planet of love, so relationships already in trouble will be facing a very testing time. The qualities of Venus being expressed through Capricorn are those of endurance, responsibility, hard work and generally taking love very seriously. While she is retrograde in this sign then, all of these issues become even more poignant. If you are in a totally joyless relationship you will be asking yourself why. Misplaced loyalty? Going above and beyond the call of duty? Feeling trapped by your responsibilities or shared assets? If a relationship is floundering but the love is still there you will need to get right back to basics, strip away all trivia and irrelevant issues, and restructure. Capricorn needs to know where the goal posts are and to play by the rules.

Retrograde Venus in this sign will want to rewrite the rule book, to find out how much love matters and to put commitment and intimacy issues under the microscope. Relationships that are unlikely to stand up to this kind of close scrutiny could crumble, especially over the notorious holiday “make or break” season. January is not the top business month for divorce lawyers for nothing!

Ok, that is worst case scenario. Other possibilities to look out for in your love life – meeting someone who is unavailable or who will be absent for the next six weeks, getting back with an ex and trying to make it work, delaying tactics from one partner if you’re talking of getting married or moving in together, reasons beyond your control that will delay such matters, a feeling that you’re constantly having to learn the same love lessons twice – or more. Attached, separating or single, there will be many serious questions to ponder over the next six weeks.

Venus also rules money. Do not be foolish with finances! If you’ve already overspent for Xmas now is the time to tie up the purse strings, to rein in your spending and to stick to a strict budget. Resist buying on credit or committing to anything that you suspect is going to prove too expensive. It’s the time to pull out of deals that are designed to benefit only the other person or to question any matter in which you feel that you’re missing the point. For many it will be a fallow time as companies trim back budgets further, so unfortunately pay cuts or redundancies are in there too. In essence, if money is an issue, it fits the bill of a retrograde Venus in Capricorn to impose your own austerity measures and to make your hard earned cash go a lot further, to put bills and debts first, pleasures second.

There is a big question mark hovering over values – at a personal and emotional level what/whom do you really love, and at a practical level, where is money being wasted, how can you meet expenses, or make something pay? If you’re getting a property valued I would strongly recommend getting at least two valuations (supported by Full Moon in Gemini) and ideally waiting until Venus goes direct at the end of January before accepting any offers. Waiting games of many kinds lie ahead, but this doesn’t mean that everything will grind to a halt. However, business dealings will need a lot of patience and negotiation. Retrograde cycles favour going “back” – to the drawing board, to former employers, to ideas. Waste no time in sowing seeds if you want to reap a bumper harvest in February.

Above all Venus is desire so guard against the classic “be careful what you wish for”… you might change your mind!
