Greek Island Summer School

CHANGE TO SCHEDULE

8 June – Discovering Astrology
This was originally scheduled as a tarot week but this year the demand for astrology is much higher! This course is suitable for beginners/refreshers. Lift astrology out of the Sun sign columns and discover the world of horoscopy. We’ll be working on your own charts, from understanding the natal picture to taking your first steps in prediction. There will be 10 places available for this group.
The other two courses currently scheduled for the Summer School are –

11 May 2015 – The Crystal Zodiac
The Greek Island Summer School welcomes visiting and internationally acclaimed mind-body-spirit tutor and author Judy Hall. In this course Judy will be teaching how crystals and astrology can help you to understand and heal the past and move forward into the life your soul has planned.

Suitable for all levels. 6 of 20 places available.

7 September – Synastry: The Astrology of Relationships

Discover how your horoscope holds the keys to understanding the nature of your relationships. What type of partner will you meet and when? Why do you connect with one person but not another? Learn how comparing your horoscope to another’s describes your points of both conflict and compatibility.

Suitable for students who have completed any kind of beginners astrology course. 7 of 10 places available.

Travelling to Greece

The tour operators have suddenly hiked up their prices for Judy’s week starting on 11 May. This isn’t unusual – they are trying to pick up some last minute business – but if things go according to past patterns these prices will come down again when they’re ready to sell their remaining flight seats and rooms. This is good news if you’re a last-minuter!

In the meantime absolutely the best way to get a deal is to do the old fashioned thing of ringing them up. Finding travel on line can be incredibly time consuming and many travel websites are notably user unfriendly – so the short cut for Olympic Holidays (Demetra Studios) http://www.olympicholidays.com/greece/ is 020 8492 6868

Cosmos Holidays http://www.cosmos.co.uk/greece/holidays (a whole list of options, best deal usually Costas and Sophie’s studios, or the Avra Beach hotel) – this site is out of action this morning which means they’re probably updating it, but you’ll find their phone number on the home page.

The other option is to do flight only which, as the date draws nearer, becomes an increasingly attractive option. The return flights for Sunday 10 May have already come down from over £300 pounds to £229 – which includes 20k of baggage:
http://search.charterflights.co.uk/fusion/flexiflights.pl?sessionkey=8F14831C-A0B7g4BC4-BBD3-8A1E47763B47&resultkey=default

I can arrange transfers for around 25 Euros per person and there is a variety of accommodation to choose from. Seafront rooms or apartments can be booked on request. As a rough guide these cost between €30 to €65 a night, depending on number of rooms and time of year.

EMAIL ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE KEPT INFORMED ABOUT THE BEST BARGAINS WITH THE TOUR OPERATORS OR FOR FLIGHT ONLY PRICES.

What’s happening this week?

At first sight the answer is – not a lot. Things are very quiet in the heavens as the week gets underway but don’t be lulled into complacency. There’s a lot simmering under the surface which becomes more apparent as the week goes on. Also note that there are still three weeks to go before Mercury turns retrograde and the more you can get list ticking now and the further ahead you can get with any important issue, the better.

The Sun in hands-on earthy Taurus supports the “roll up your shirt sleeves” approach, especially as the Sun is the prime mover in the first half of the week, travelling steadily towards a harmonious aspect with Neptune, currently at home in his own sign of Pisces:

Thursday 30 April – Sun sextile Neptune (00.12)

This bodes well for things sliding easily into place and also favors any kind of reality check. All things Neptunian can prosper when handled with lashings of common sense and a steadying hand. Such as? The Neptunian world is the sea, the boundless realms of feelings, imagination and dreams. All visions need an action plan if you’re going to get them off the drawing board. Emotions need to be framed and contained rather than being allowed to escalate out of all proportion. If you have sensitive issues to deal with then your top tip is to anticipate what’s brewing and to create a calm environment in which they can be addressed. Neptune rules alcohol – if you’re partying then drink sensibly and avoid touchy subjects when the wine is flowing. Save them for the cold sober light of day. Neptune also rules sleep – make plenty of shut-eye a top priority during the first half of this week.

Relationship issues are in the mix as the Sun – Neptune alignment is followed by the alignment of the love planets:

Thursday 30 April Venus semi-sextile Mars (16.15)

This is a minor aspect, created when two planets reach the same degree but one sign apart, as we now have with Venus in Gemini and Mars in the preceding sign of Taurus. As each sign is very different from the one that precedes or follows it look out for compatibility issues. If you meet someone at this time this aspect signals a definite connection and liking, but you may be better off as friends, or you may need more time to discover how much you really have in common. Even in a secure relationship this aspect favors doing your own thing, each playing to their own strengths or following personal interests rather than thinking that you always have to do everything together.

In rocky relationships the “simmering under the surface” issues may well start coming to the boil at this time. Remember that Gemini is the sign of the twins – Venus in this sign is so often an indicator of affairs, the other man or woman, choices that need to be made – and so on.

The second half of the week is not the easiest of picture. Mercury moves into his own sign of Gemini which in itself is good news, but his first aspect is a tough one to Saturn – planet of obstacles and restrictions:

Friday 1 May – Mercury ingress Gemini (03.01)
Sunday 3 May – Mercury opposite Saturn (09.36)

Mercury/Saturn conflicts spell bad news, a disappointment, a “no” when you were hoping for a “yes”, coming up against the brick wall of authority, problems with no immediate answers, and communication problems of a wide variety. Difficult Mercury aspects often reflect the themes that you would normally expect to deal with when this planet is retrograde, so it’s helpful to operate by the checklist that I normally post for those times. It won’t hurt to get into practice for the next retrograde coming up in three weeks time!

• Try to operate by “re” words – review, revise, research, reappraise, rethink and so on
• Write things down – forgetfulness, being distracted, inattention etc can be a troublesome theme
• Don’t throw anything away
• Back up all your computer work, and don’t delete any emails or documents
• Rest and relaxation, give the brain some time off
• Keep options open
• Assume nothing, double check everything
• When in doubt, check it out – second hand opinions are a dead cert for getting hold of the wrong end of the stick – and don’t believe everything you hear
• Keep a close watch on all belongings – especially keys or anything linked to communication such as phones, laptops, cameras etc and don’t even think about buying new ones for the time being
• The same for cars – never buy a car or any kind of technology under a retrograde or ill aspected Mercury
• Plan any journey with extra care and don’t trust to luck
• Take extra care with form filling/signing on dotted lines

Note that weekend events are also building up to peak with the Full Moon that falls in the early hours of Monday:

Monday 4 May – Full Moon at 13 degrees of Scorpio (04.43)

This is arguably the most difficult Full Moon of the year as Scorpio is the Moon’s sign of “fall” – the sign in which the softer and receptive lunar qualities struggle for expression. Scorpio belongs to Mars in traditional astrology, and any Moon/Mars combination is difficult (as indicated the other way around too, the Moon is “exalted” in Taurus, which in turn is Mars’ sign of detriment). So, we can expect an intensifying of the emotional tides that rise high at the time of any Full Moon. Beware domestics (that means with anyone close to you, not just partners), especially anything linked to the more difficult Scorpio issues, such as jealousy, power or control. This Full Moon falls in square to Jupiter (at 13 degrees of Leo) which is a classic “over the top” hallmark.

On the plus side Full Moons signal a cycle coming to fullness and they bring things to light. Just be careful about what you take on at this time – with the Jupiter square in action it would be all too easy to over extend yourself or over commit. However, Jupiter also loves enthusiasm and passion, and as he’s now picking up speed in wholehearted Leo, an all or nothing policy may well be the fuel that’s needed to drive a plan forwards.

This Full Moon will be especially significant for you if you have planets or angles at or close to 13 degrees of Scorpio – or the opposite sign of Taurus. Here’s the usual link for checking the signs and degrees of your natal planets –

http://www.alwaysastrology.com/birth-chart-calculator.html

The last word goes to my niece Sara who has just introduced me to the “go fund me” website and I posted her link last week. There was a lot of interest in this and I know that some people have passed on the idea. In terms of the discussions about the concept of raising funding in this way I found that most people thought that this was a brilliant idea and it’s sparked a lot of generosity and support. I love the fact that her fund so far is made up of plenty of fivers and tenners – every little helps in the mission to keep her business alive in the middle of a divorce.

From a self esteem point of view this is a positive option for those who need to create resources without having to go into debt in the process, especially as there is an exchange involved – every level of donation comes with some kind of offer or gift. Most importantly, does this reflect the astrology of the moment? Yes – with the backdrop of this Sun in Taurus time of year (sign of resources and all things material) now is the time to build security and find the means to do so. The Sun’s positive aspect to Neptune this week says get creative with money and support the spirit of enterprise! If you’d like to learn more here’s the link again:

Until next week,
With love from Greece

What’s happening this week?

All times stated are in GMT.

It’s an important start to the week as Mercury entered Scorpio on Saturday for the second time and now reaches 2 degrees of this sign, the degree at which he turned retrograde on 4 October. Mercury reaches 2 degrees of Scorpio at approximately midday today, Monday, and this means that he is now out of what is known as the “shadow” period.

What can you expect? This is a bit like a rerun of Mercury turning direct – which happened on 25 October – but with bells on. In other words, any matter that has been time consuming, confusing or hampered by outside factors in the last few weeks will now reach a major point of clarification or even closure. Expect that moment of achievement or finding yourself on the home stretch of a challenging project or a hard won battle. This event can also signal that sense of reaching the end of the tunnel, that moment of knowing that you’ve come through to the other side, either to leave something behind or to start afresh. Expect to make decisions or to have them made for you.

This picture will be especially poignant for you if you have natal planets or angles in the early degrees of Scorpio, or in the other fixed signs (Taurus, Leo and Aquarius). Don’t forget that if you don’t know the position of your natal planets you can find them in a matter of minutes by entering your date, place and time of birth into a chart calculator, such as this one:
http://www.alwaysastrology.com/birth-chart-calculator.html
Mercury’s emergence from the shadows is always good news, no matter what sign he is in, but the rebirth symbolism is underlined even more strongly by the fact that Mercury marks this moment in Scorpio. This sign’s biggest strength is the ability to regenerate, to move out of the shadows and back into the light. Mercury’s first aspect will be a harmonious trine to Neptune on Wednesday (03.40) which in itself is peaceable and the stuff of pacts, truces and deep emotional connection and understanding. With Scorpio there is however always the sting in the tail. It may be gloves off if you have matters of truth to address. Say it how it is because now is the time to deal with the facts of a matter and not figments of anyone’s imagination, including our own! This is powerfully underlined by the fact that Neptune is “stationing” (in the process of turning direct after five months of retrograde motion) so again there is the message of the real message emerging.

Admitting we were wrong, finding the strength to walk away from a job or a relationship that is beyond salvation, facing up to situations that cannot be changed but only accepted – these are the kind of themes to look out for as Monday closes with an aspect that smacks of inevitability –

Monday – Mars conjunct Pluto in Capricorn (23.04)

These are Scorpio’s ruling planets – Mars being the traditional ruler and Pluto being the modern co-ruler – and this conjunction happens at 11 degrees of Capricorn. Mars is the stronger factor as he is in his sign of exaltation and his principle is action, but Pluto is a tough adversary, planet of endings and black holes. As I’ve commented before you will frequently read “transformation” as a major keyword for Pluto but it’s a word to be used carefully. Pluto’s principle may be transformative but Plutonic change usually starts with loss, absence or endings and is therefore not of the overnight sensation variety.

The threads of this theme continue to work their way through this week’s astrological tapestry as midweek brings two major aspects less than half an hour apart –

Thursday
Venus conjunct Saturn (01.03)
Thursday – Mars square Uranus (01.30)

So, the meeting of Scorpio’s planets of Mars/Pluto in Capricorn (Saturn’s sign) is followed by Venus conjunct Saturn (Capricorn’s planet) in Scorpio. No matter which way you look at it these aspects signal issues that are heavy going or which need stringent reality tests. In terms of textbook astrology Venus is love, pleasure and money, whereas Saturn rules limitations and likes saying no. Venus-Saturn aspects of any kind tend to bring us up against denial – the denial of our own feelings or that which is being denied to us. Mars in conflict with Uranus, planet of rebellion or the unexpected, may also throw another spanner in the works. Note that in relationship astrology Uranus rules splits.

This doesn’t mean that all of life’s pleasures are suddenly going to disappear or that your love life will self destruct but if you have planets or angles that align with these aspects then you are inevitably up against challenges. To summarize –

The Mars – Pluto conjunction – 11 degrees of Capricorn
The Venus – Saturn conjunction – 25 degrees of Scorpio
The Mars – Uranus square – 13 degrees of Capricorn and Aries respectively

The good news is that anything that is already in a tailspin will be hurtling towards an inevitable conclusion and the opportunity to bail out may actually be a relief. Similarly, if you’ve been having doubts about the wisdom of pursing any particular course of action, then events during the first half of this week will sort the wheat from the chaff. Look for and read the obvious signposts.

The second half of the week is much lighter as jolly Jupiter steps in –

Friday – Sun square Jupiter (03.06)

The square is an inharmonious aspect but is not so troublesome when the two planets involved are not troublemakers. Jupiter’s principle is expansion and under duress points to biting off more than you can chew, over doing things, overspending, going over the top – but quite possibly having a lot of fun in the process.

As mentioned earlier Neptune is stationing and turns direct at nearly 5 degrees of Pisces at the weekend –

Sunday
Neptune turns direct at (07.07)

Mercury is the first planet to capture this mood (Mercury trine Neptune early hours of Wednesday) and he now also makes a constructive sextile to Pluto, Sunday (13.56). As above, so below. Look out for things swimming to the surface, a turning point in any situation which has provoked mixed feelings, information that throws a new light on the viability of a major plan or events that put you in touch with your own real feelings, or someone else’s. This weekend picture feels very much like getting to grips with things and probably expending a great deal of energy but being happy with the final results.

Sunday closes with –

Venus ingress Sagittarius (19.05)

This is good news as the love planet exits Scorpio her sign of detriment and enters freewheeling fiery Sagittarius, sign of optimism, learning and travel – and I’ll be talking more about this next week.

What’s happening this week?

All times stated are in GMT.

Venus and the Sun are now travelling through Scorpio and both make that awkward quinqunx aspect to Uranus in the first half of the week –

Monday Venus quinqunx Uranus (15.05)
Wednesday Sun quinqunx Uranus (21.59)

This “blind spot” aspect occurs as planets align when they are five signs apart. Also note that Uranus himself is the planet of the unexpected and is still travelling through Aries so this conflict happens between planets that are both in the signs ruled by Mars. This cranks up the heat for potential conflict of the kind that you couldn’t possibly see coming. In other words, getting caught out by Mars stuff is high on the risk agenda. Mars is ego – be honest about your own agendas and try to be objective – and he is also energy, as is the Sun. If you’re under the weather then don’t overdo things. Listen to your body, rest up and don’t push yourself too hard. The world won’t stop turning if you cancel an appointment or a night out. The sign of Scorpio is traditionally and symbolically death and rebirth. While we may be spiritual beings having a physical experience we are also physical beings having a spiritual experience. We don’t say “keeping body and soul together” for nothing. So find the balance and if you need to recharge the batteries then the first half of this week is the time to do so.

Venus is the love planet so take it nice and steady if you’re getting to know someone new. And even if you think you know someone inside out, the reality is that we don’t know anyone inside out. Even our closest loved ones can surprise us. Also Venus rules money as well as love so be vigilant – and realistic. If you’re planning a budget for anything be aware that the hidden extras factor is likely to prove far more troublesome than you might have bargained for. However, the main theme of this week is bringing the bigger picture into focus so any kind of uncertainty is likely to be short lived.

Monday also brings a major aspect that helps things along –

Sun sextile Pluto (22.49)

The Sun in Scorpio in good aspect to Pluto, Scorpio’s co-ruling planet on his long journey through purposeful Capricorn (which just for the record started in 2008 and ends in 2023 so still many years to go) is a powerful teaming and fantastic for positive endings/new beginnings, healing of all kinds and finding the balance – such as work/life, spiritual/physical or emotional/material needs. Finding the right person to help you is key, especially for stubborn health problems or working out how to make a big change in your life.

Thursday Full Moon 14 degrees of Taurus (22.24)

This is the Moon’s best sign – she rules the water sign of Cancer but the earth sign of Taurus is her sign of “exaltation” – and it’s a picture of fertility and fruition. Financial concerns are the first to grab the spotlight. Note, however, that all Full Moons are also very much linked to “lunacy” so look out for the domestics, especially as this Full Moon is preceded by the Uranus disruption. Often this lunacy factor is related to issues coming to light. The Full Moon illuminates and brings things out of hiding. Guard against falling out with someone over money. It’s always a sensitive issue but if you’re in a money muddle of any kind, or if you need to find ways of making the cash go a lot further, now’s the time to find the practical answers.

Saturday Mercury ingress Scorpio (23.10)

This is significant as this Mercury’s ingress into Scorpio Take 2. Here’s the sequence that’s been unfolding and which is now reaching its final stages –

• 27 September Mercury entered Scorpio for the first time but was already stationing (slowing down)
• 4 October Mercury turned retrograde at 2 degrees of Scorpio
• 10 October Mercury went back into Libra
• 25 October Mercury turned direct at 17 degrees of Libra
• 8 November Mercury enters Scorpio for the second time
• 10 November (next Monday) Mercury will reach 2 degrees of Scorpio for the second time, but this time keeps moving. (This is known as the end of the shadow period – which covers the period of time between Mercury turning direct and returning to the degree at which he turned retrograde)

So, what does this all mean? Firstly look back to see what issues were important for you at the end of September and beginning of October. Either these will return or they will reach an important next stage or a conclusion. For me this is easy to see as I actually wrote the very last words of my new book on 2 October, I’ve been working on amendments since then – classic retrograde Mercury, spotting errors and making corrections, requiring a lot of close concentration and attention to detail – and now I’m on the final proof read. All writers feel at this stage that actually writing the book was the easy bit! However, Mercury (writing, books) getting back into Scorpio (witchy subjects) for the second time is perfect symbolism for wrapping up this project and I can now look forward to seeing my “baby” in print (due date 12 March 2015).
Also look out for themes of being able to make decisions related to longer standing issues, especially something you’ve been thinking about for a long time. This Mercury activity signals news that will make a difference. Also look out for all of the other usual themes connected to Mercury picking up speed, such as truth games, corrected information, answers to sticky problems, finding what you’ve been looking for or going ahead with plans or major purchases.
The rest of the weekend picture is also pretty lively as we travel towards a Venus – Jupiter aspect –
Sunday Venus square Jupiter (20.42)
The two Benefics (the good guys) coming together is usually happy news, especially for love, fun and new opportunities. The cautionary note lies in the fact that this particular alignment has something of an “over the top” quality. A square is a challenging aspect, Venus is still in Scorpio her sign of detriment and Jupiter is in big, bold Leo and hard to miss. Jupiter’s principle is expansion but under a difficult aspect this can tip over into inflation and exaggeration. Jupiter in Leo being pulled into the picture by square to a super sensitive Venus has the feel of someone loving a drama or even creating one when life gets too tame, feelings running high or touchy subjects growing arms and legs. This aspect will be applying (in the process of becoming exact) throughout the weekend so if you’re off on a Saturday night out there’s no denying that the time is right for letting your hair down, but it’s about knowing when to stop!
Similarly, with work, social or family commitments, guard against biting off more than you can chew – or more than you can realistically afford. Debt accrued at this time may be regretted so if you’re going to go out on a limb in any way make sure it’s for a reason that is really worthwhile.
