EXCITING NEWS! I am moving which means that The Greek Island Summer School is moving too. Am going a few minutes drive up the mountainside to the amazing Villa Jorgos with spectacular views across Nidri and the perfect outdoor “classroom”, complete with outside bar. Photos soon!
The Greek experience is about combining the fascinating subjects of astrology or tarot, or both, with a week’s holiday on this beautiful Ionian island of Lefkada. This is the 13th year of the Summer School and you can book to join a group (maximum of 8 students) or do private tuition by arrangement from May to October. The Astrology Blog – w/b 27 January 2014
I don’t normally start by jumping further ahead than the coming week but just to break with tradition… Next week is one of those in which nothing major is unfolding with the exception of Mercury turning retrograde – and to be forewarned about that is always to be forearmed! – but I think it will otherwise be a sort of watershed. By comparison this coming week is nuts and we’ll probably all need a breather of some kind by the time we get to the end of it.
So fasten your seatbelts for a dramatic picture that unfolds from the middle of the week, although note as explained last week that “applying” aspects can show during the 48 hours run up to becoming exact. Here’s the sequence:
– The Sun in Aquarius heads for a sextile (harmonious) with Uranus, the planet that co-rules this sign. (Traditional astrology gives Saturn to Aquarius, and assigns Uranus as co-ruler) This aspect is exact on Wednesday morning at 08.34 GMT.
– This is swiftly followed by the New Moon at 11 degrees of Aquarius, exact on Thursday at 21.40 GMT. This means that the New Moon (when the Sun and Moon are exactly conjunct each other) falls sextile to Uranus, so it’s sort of a double whammy.
Look out for events that are flavoured by Uranus’s spices of the unexpected, the unusual, the innovative or the shocking. With a harmonious aspect in play we can expect some of these events to be of the nice surprise variety but Uranus is such a rogue planet and so notoriously unpredictable that even by good aspect he can signal disruption, changes and news of the very unsettling kind. Look out for events that require you to leap into action and think on your feet.
On the cheerier side don’t forget about Uranus’ and Aquarius’ ruling of all things group orientated. Teamwork and networking of all kinds get a big yes, as does spending time with good friends or making new ones. Work wise or leisure wise it’s time to befriend the internet or learn the technological skills that you’re lacking.
The dust hardly has time to settle before we get the next major aspect of the week, Jupiter opposite Pluto for the second time, exact on Friday at 09.37 GMT. (The first was 8 August 2013 and the third will be 21 April 2014). This is a relatively rare aspect as Jupiter has a 12 year cycle – and Pluto is the slowest moving of them all with a 248 year cycle – so Jupiter will oppose Pluto approximately every 13 years. (The last series of Jupiter oppositions to Pluto was between May 2000 to September 2001). It’s possible that you’ll be dealing with an issue that first appeared last August and that will be finally resolved in April.
So, Uranus is the planet of dramatic change (revolution) but Pluto is the planet of death/rebirth (evolution). Pluto tells us when it is time to move on and endings of some kind are either embraced or, more usually, often forced upon us. Most of us are resistant to change until we have no choice. Pluto loves change of the total and no going back kind and loves slamming the door behind him.
By contrast Jupiter is known as the Greater Benefic, planet of opportunity and good fortune, and brings things or people that are good for us. In tandem with Pluto however this may not be immediately obvious! I would say that this can be the classic cloud with a silver lining aspect, or even if you know what/who you want, you’ll be looking at an all or nothing scenario or events which require huge amounts of effort. Big, bold, daring moves are signaled under the Jupiter – Pluto combination and ultimately you have the chance to make the big changes that have probably been brewing for some time. The bigger picture message is that you can’t change and stay the same – something has to give and the “rebirth” process is not without pain. Goodbyes are hard, but they mustn’t stop us from venturing further into the world. Jupiter’s principle is expansion and personal growth is at the top of that list.
To share my own story – my move! I have been in my apartment for twelve years, and Jupiter with his 12 year orbit has therefore now come full cycle. Astrologically the cycle is exact as Jupiter was at 11 degrees of Cancer when I moved in, he is now retrograde and is at 12 degrees of Cancer and will be at 11 degrees again when I move in a couple of weeks time. I am moving in with family for the first time since childhood (will have to learn the “communal” thing again as signaled by Aquarius) but the villa is huge (Jupiter’s expansion principle) and we got it through a stroke of incredible luck. As a Sagittarian I often get that Jupiter 11th hour type luck. The Pluto bit is that I am “leaving home” all over again, leaving my Greek family who have been a major part of my life for the last twelve years. My landlord and landlady live downstairs, they have daughters the same age as me, and although I will still of course see them it is nevertheless about breaking that tie. It’s also about dejunking! Pluto is ruthless, uncompromising and purging. The de-junk has started with a vengeance and is frankly overwhelming but it has to be done!
Also on Friday two other events swiftly follow – Mercury changes sign and his ingress into Pisces is exact at 14.30 GMT, and Venus turns direct in purposeful Capricorn at 20.50 GMT after being retrograde since 21 December. These feel contradictory. Mercury is entering one of his signs of detriment, and is slow moving now as he’ll turn retrograde next Thursday, so there’s some very sensitive stuff bubbling there and I’ll be talking more about this next time. On the other hand, the love planet Venus getting back to business is great news. She will take a while to get back up to full speed but look out for positive and constructive turning points in your relationship, with a work or financial concern, or with any matter that is close to your heart. Again, I’ll be talking more next week about Venus on the move.
