25 August 2014 – Manic Monday, a clever New Moon, be careful what you wish for and staying cool

The Astrology Blog – w/b 25 August 2014

All times stated are in BST.

EMAIL PROBLEM
Last week’s blog was entitled “Mercury on the rampage” – on Wednesday night my email was deactivated and is still inexplicably defunct. So if anyone has sent me an email in the last five days please can you resend to my back up email address which is joannawatters1@hotmail.com or message me on Facebook. Thanks!

IF YOU HAVE ENQUIRED ABOUT THE LAST FEW PLACES ON SEPTEMBER COURSES – my internet connection is also somewhat unreliable at the moment so to be on the safe side you can text me on 0030 6976 296085 and I will call you back.

Everything else that happened last week amply bore out Mercury as the troublemaker. I’m on the home stretch of writing (Mercury) the new book so this couldn’t have happened at a worst time re being in constant touch with my copy editor and publishers, constantly checking out details on celebs mentioned in the book, not to mention the hours and hours spent on trying to sort the problem out and getting seriously stressed! Last week I wrote:

The “getting there” may be extremely taxing and may throw up a lot more questions and issues in the process. Look out for the “x” factor that, until now, may either have been hidden or not recognized as being significant.

I finally sat myself down and reminded myself that if you can’t change the problem then you can change your response and in fact getting stressed is actually a choice. I only had to read the horrible headlines last week to remind myself also that an email problem is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

In some ways it is quite an education to be without email – makes me realise how totally dependent I am on that particular piece of technology – and Mercury’s rampage definitely manifested for me as a lesson in realizing how much we are in constant contact with others. For me it also showed as a language barrier (my Greek is okay for basic communication purposes but a long way from being fluent) and the frustration of either making myself understood, or trying to understand what was being said, or trying to understand a problem that was way beyond my level of expertise. Trying to find the right person to fix the problem is also proving to be a total headache – it is all very similar to having a retrograde Mercury on the loose.

We are also in the process of wedding plans for my sister’s big day at the end of September which is the other area of stress…. The Mercury (communication) – Venus (love) – Pluto (starting from scratch ) entanglement of last week manifested as trying to track down Mike’s divorce papers that should already be here and with the translator, having to cull the wedding invite list that had got totally out of control – and also discovering that the order for my own dress (Venus for adornment) had been cancelled (Pluto loves writing “the end”) as I hadn’t clocked the instructions on the order form (Mercury) wanting a copy of my passport in order to verify that the order had definitely come from me and not someone posing as me and using my card fraudulently (Mercury quinqunx – the blind spot – to Uranus). Is this security gone nuts? Back to the drawing board….

At a more general level let me just share this… Women are from Venus, men are from Mars…. Yesterday morning I walked into the kitchen, my soon to be brother in law was eating breakfast, head bowed.
“Morning Mike.”
Nothing … most unusual, Mike is a ray of sunshine.
A minute later… “Morning Mike…”
“Oh morning Jo. I was in a world of my own.”
Sympathetically, “What were you thinking about?”
“This afternoon’s Grand Prix.”
Lol.
What’s happening this week?

The week starts at full tilt with a rapid sequence of major aspects unfolding throughout Monday –

Mercury sextile Mars (9.47) – the end of the Mercury/Mars/Uranus sequence that unfolded over this last weekend, and the beginning of the Mercury/Mars/Saturn sequence unfolding now. As you read this my sister will be in the OTE offices (UK equivalent to BT) trying to find out why the email has been deactivated and as the sextile is a harmonious aspect I am cautiously optimistic that we will now get some answers… whatever has been unfolding for you over the last few days, look out for resolution in some form or another, even though there may still be work or arguments involved in sorting things out.

Venus 16 degrees of Leo trine Uranus at 16 Aries (10.39) – fiery, possibly dramatic or sudden events connected to love and life’s pleasures. Also signifies surprises or answers in unexpected guises.

Mercury sextile Saturn (13.31) – the middle of the Mercury/Mars/Saturn configuration. Generally these two planets in harmonious aspect signal firm agreements, reliable information and answers that generate definite results. However, be prepared for some answers that are not what you had hoped for although you can still work your way around them. Whatever answers you didn’t get on Monday you will probably find now.

New Moon at 2 degrees of Virgo (15.14) – New Moons, new brooms that sweep clean. Beginnings – such as a new job or meeting a new person – or fresh starts are signified, especially in relation to Virgo’s domain of work and health, or characteristics of analysis and brainwork. Maybe new solutions to old problems?

Mars conjunct Saturn at 17 degrees of Scorpio (20.31) – in traditional astrology Mars is the lesser malefic and Saturn is the greater malefic. This is a major meeting as they come together only once every two years (the last time was August 2012 at 25 degrees of Libra) and as the word malefic indicates, it’s not the easiest or most pleasant of encounters. Note that Mars is strong, being in his own sign of dignity, but Saturn also in the fixed water sign of Scorpio is no pushover. Mars wants to power forwards, Saturn rules obstacles, delays and time itself. Accept what is inevitable or impossible, work out what IS possible and stay realistic as you map out the way ahead. Stay in your own “authority” when dealing with those who have any kind of power over you.

18 August 2014 – Robin Williams, Venus – Jupiter blessings but Mercury on the rampage

The Astrology Blog – w/b 18 August 2014

All times stated are in BST.

Scroll down if you want just this week’s astrology but firstly some feedback – last week I wrote:

Jupiter and Neptune are making the quinqunx aspect … These two planets between them rule the sign of Pisces, so look out for the Pisceans in your life, and also for the flipside to the Piscean nature that may show in individuals or in a sensitive situation. On a good day the Piscean positive qualities are compassion, insightfulness and finely tuned instincts. On a bad day these turn into hypersensitivity, paranoia or “inflation” – whereby a seemingly small detail can grow terrifying arms and legs. This off beam aspect between Jupiter and Neptune signals a very high risk of strange behavior, awkward events – or on a bigger scale, suffering of the human spirit.

Tragically last week brought the news of wonderful genius Robin Williams leaving this planet. It would have been more accurate if I’d said “look out for the Neptunians in your life”. Robin Williams was a Sun in Cancer but Moon in Pisces, with Jupiter and Neptune in opposition to each other. He also had a Scorpio Ascendant, so his chart ruler was Mars in Cancer (Mars’s sign of fall, weakest placing) conjunct Uranus (the psychological split, in events the planet of shock and suddenness) in the 8th House (death).

Both of these planets are on those super sensitive degrees that I keep mentioning – Uranus at 11 degrees and Mars at 12 degrees of Cancer – which means that Pluto is transiting by opposition. When I first read the news about his death and of course looked at his horoscope I felt a real wave of anger and frustration, and even said aloud, “People should learn more astrology!” This of course is extremely tricky ground as I’m now right in the heart of what astrology does and what it relates to in terms of the bigger picture. From a fatalist point of view it was his time to go. From a pure craft point of view Robin was on that high risk register last week –

• Pluto (co-ruler of Scorpio and therefore co-significator of Robin) was transiting opposite the unstable Mars (ruling planet and therefore primary significator of Robin) conjunct Uranus in the 8th House.

• Mars and Pluto themselves were in aspect last week (I wrote: they are both “malefic” so they signal the possibility of tough stuff – difficult tasks or decisions, something reaching a natural end, one door closing before another opens – and so on.)

• Jupiter and Neptune are a dominant aspect in his natal chart, and these same two planets were in quinqunx.

The tragic irony is that one of Robin’s black comic lines was that “don’t forget that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.” This astrological picture fits exactly with finding that something life threatening is not temporary and it later emerged that he had been diagnosed with Parkinsons. Unspeakably sad for his family and for the world to lose such a talented and vibrant spirit.

What’s happening this week?

This morning the benefics of Venus and Jupiter were exact. From an astronomical point of view:

Bruce McClure on Earthsky writes:

Venus and Jupiter rank as the third-brightest and fourth-brightest bodies in all the heavens, respectively, after the sun and moon. Start watching now for the great conjunction of the sky’s brightest planets, Venus and Jupiter. They’ll be closest around August 18. The next great conjunction of these two worlds won’t come until July 1, 2015. Then Venus and Jupiter will be in the evening sky.
http://earthsky.org/tonight/get-ready-for-the-great-venus-and-jupiter-conjunction
If you were up before dawn this morning (I wasn’t in spite of best intentions) you would’ve seen this glorious conjunction on the eastern horizon. Note the root of the words to explain the relationship but key difference between astronomy and astrology –
Astronomy – astra = stars, “nom” = name – so the naming of the stars and observation of their behavior.
Astrology – “logos” in Greek means “reason”, the logic for something – finding the “why” in the symbolic.
Last week I wrote that Venus – Jupiter contacts nearly always bring me work luck and this happened, but it’s under wraps for now. Primarily of course Venus is love/Jupiter is blessings, and even better this weekend my Libra rising (Venus) Sagittarian (Jupiter) sister got her beautiful engagement ring and we’ve been planning the wedding that will be happening here in Greece (Jupiter rules overseas) in six weeks time.

The rest of the week is a bit of a slog and something of an obstacle course. The Jupiter – Neptune quinqunx is now separating but will be “in orb” for the rest of the week, ie the aspect still counts until these two planets are further than 2 degrees apart. Mercury plays into their pattern:

Tuesday – Mercury opposite Neptune (04.42) and semi-sextile Jupiter (19.08)

Look out either for picking up the threads of key issues from last week or for new stuff. The opposition to Neptune is tricky – deception, uncertainty, sadness – but the minor aspect to Jupiter is helpful. However, agreements may not stick as Mercury has a lot more to say and is the dominant planet throughout the week, up to and including next Monday morning.

Mercury moves on to enter into a three way alliance with Venus and Pluto:

Thursday – Venus quinqunx Pluto (12.51) and Mercury trine Pluto (20.20)

Friday – Mercury semi-sextile Venus (13.47)

The final aspect is the best so, again, the indication is that whatever you’re struggling with – love, work or money issues in particular – will result in finding answers. The “getting there” however may be extremely taxing and may throw up a lot more questions and issues in the process. Look out for the “x” factor that, until now, may either have been hidden or not recognized as being significant.

Mercury then starts to tangle with Mars and Uranus – here’s the sequence:

Saturday – Mars quinqunx Uranus (07.33)
Sunday – Mercury semi-sextile Uranus (16.02)
Monday – Mercury sextile Mars (10.47)

For the third time this week the last aspect of a sequence is the best so the same rationale applies. But you may keep getting a lot of déjà vu feelings – haven’t I already dealt with this, didn’t we already agree on this, why didn’t I know about this and so on. It’s as if we have to look at things from many different angles, and deal with a lot of players who all have different needs or agendas, or work out how we can be in several different places at the same time!

In the middle of all this hoo-ha the Sun exits Leo and moves into Virgo, the ingress being exact on Saturday (05.47). The Sun’s change of sign often marks a period of transition, especially if you are of the two signs involved, in this case either Leo or Virgo. At a more universal level this ingress leaves behind the drama, pomp and ceremony of Leo and enters the Virgo world of thought, analysis and attention to details.

My top advice for this week is to stay calm and clever (Mercury in Virgo) and centered (Sun in Leo). If you’ve got a drama or a problem to deal with then stay calm, stick to the facts and don’t drag up the past. My sister’s motto is “one day at a time” and that is certainly a good mantra to adopt for this week.

New cycles, Mercury gets his act together, the joyful union of Venus and Jupiter

The Astrology Blog – w/b 11 August 2014

All times stated are in BST.

Firstly some feedback – last week I wrote with regard to the Mars – Neptune trine:

a wonderful omen for giving Paul the best possible send off – Neptune is grief, but he also rules the oceans, alcohol and Neptune/Pisces often feature strongly in the horoscopes of those who are musically or artistically talented – and we are holding the wake at our house with a view of the sea, live music and lots of wine!

Often the current aspects are doubly powerful when they are reflecting the same activity in your chart. On the day of Paul’s funeral transiting Mars was exactly conjunct my natal Neptune, so it was double whammy. The wake was the most emotional and beautiful tribute to Paul’s life, and there were a lot of tears but also a lot of laughter as everyone came together and shared their stories and memories. It was an occasion I will never forget.

I also wrote about the Mercury quinqunx Pluto:

This aspect happens when two planets are five signs apart, in this case Mercury at 11 degrees of Leo and Pluto at 11 degrees of Capricorn. Although the aspect is listed as “minor” I have found that it can still throw a pretty major spoke in the wheel. This particular combination feels a little like a retrograde Mercury so don’t be caught out. Keep your confidences for those whose trust is beyond doubt, allow extra time for travelling, back up your computer work (Pluto loves black holes!) and keep a close watch on all personal belongings.

Again, these aspects are more pertinent if you have natal planets at 11 degrees, or one degree either side. One reader who has natal Mars at 12 degrees had the nightmare experience of having her business email hacked. They wiped out her entire contacts list that had taken 20 years to build. Fortunately she was able to retrieve most of them from other mail, but she has lost incoming new mail completely. It’s a reminder to all of us never to keep important info in one place only – always back up somehow, somewhere!

Don’t forget that you can find out the sign and degree of your natal planets in a matter of minutes on this link:
http://www.alwaysastrology.com/birth-chart-calculator.html

What’s happening this week? The love planet Venus is on the move, leaving Cancer and heading into Leo, the ingress being exact tomorrow, Tuesday at 08.25. Her first aspect will be a quinqunx to Neptune on Sunday (16.09) and by now of course the evidence for this being an awkward contact is clear. With Neptune the “blind side” action can be anything from confusion to illusion, and for love issues the general feel is super sensitive. Top advice is to say or do nothing under the influence! Venus rules money too so watch your cash/rip off prices.

The much better news is that Venus’ next aspect will be a conjunction with Jupiter – exact next Monday morning at 06.22 – so this will be an applying (yet to happen) aspect over the coming weekend.

4 August 2014 – That loving feeling, the things you can’t change, a tough Full Moon

The Astrology Blog – w/b 4 August 2014

All times stated are in BST.

You may remember that last week I dedicated this blog to a very close friend Paul who passed away unexpectedly 24 July. So this has been a very sad time for our community here in Greece. Some astrological feedback which I know Paul (he loved the blog) would appreciate ties in with the Mercury – Jupiter conjunction which was exact on Saturday. Last week I wrote: This picks out Saturday night as the best time of the week as Mercury/Jupiter contacts are lucky, sociable and the bringers of good news.

In Greece burials happen immediately but in Paul’s case matters have been delayed as the police were unable to find his brother, his only remaining next of kin. Finally Interpol got involve! And so his brother was found – on Saturday. Mercury (news) and Jupiter (all things international) is such a symbolically appropriate showing for results via Interpol and I know that Paul would have found this hilarious.

Mercury is a key player again this week starting with the awkward quinqunx to Pluto on Wednesday (12.43). Keep your confidences for those whose trust is beyond doubt, allow extra time for travelling, back up your computer work (Pluto loves black holes!) and keep a close watch on all personal belongings when you’re out and about, especially keys, phones and cash cards or personal documentation of any kind.

Thursday brings Mars, now in his own sign of Scorpio, trine (harmonious) to Neptune also in his own sign of Pisces. So, a powerful trine in water signs (exact at 13.15) bodes well for your emotional life. For me of course it’s a wonderful omen for giving Paul the best possible send off – Neptune is grief, but he also rules the oceans, alcohol and Neptune/Pisces often feature strongly in the horoscopes of those who are musically or artistically talented – and we are holding the wake at our house with a view of the sea, live music and lots of wine! Paul had Moon in Pisces, had lived on a boat for most of his life and loved his theatre work.

This water trine is super sensitive so if you’ve got the “urge to merge” with someone now’s your chance. It’s all about connecting with others at a deeply empathic and emotional level, so there may be tears of either sadness or joy, both being therapeutic and healing. If you want to get your message across to someone about how you’ve felt, or vice versa, this is the time to let down your guard and let those feelings flow.
