The Astrology Blog – w/b 10 February 2014
It’s a slow start in the heavens for the first half of the week so, if you haven’t got to do anything in a hurry then let yourself off the hook. The communication planet Mercury turned retrograde last Thursday evening and if he isn’t already tying you in knots then try to do as much advance thinking and planning as possible. If you can troubleshoot a small problem now you may stop it from turning into a big one but, even so, proceed with caution. This applies especially to saying things that will be hard to take back or to making commitments that you already suspect will be difficult to honour. Similarly, take other people’s promises or assurances with a pinch of salt for the time being.
The second delaying factor in play is the Sun squaring up to Saturn, exact tomorrow evening at 19.58 GMT. This is like trying to force a square peg into a round hole. It’s not going to happen without bending or breaking. Know your limitations and accept other people’s. Also watch your energy levels and your general well being. The Sun is the life giver and when in conflict with Saturn it can signal ill health, trying to push yourself too hard and exhausting your reserves. If you’re recovering from an illness or injury nobody is handing out any prizes for going back to work far too soon. Any issue that is stuck or resistant either needs a big rethink or it will simply need time, especially as Saturn Lord of Time is now moving very slowly, in readiness for turning retrograde at the beginning of next month.
However, just when you’re thinking that you might as well dive under the duvet for the rest of the week, there’s an upswing midweek as Mercury reverses back into Aquarius in the early hours of Thursday. He is much happier in this sign than he is in Pisces, which is his sign of detriment in which he is said to be mute. So Thursday is the day when you can pick up a conversation that was left hanging at the end of last month or when rethinks of any kind will start to bear fruit. Information you’ve been waiting on could suddenly slot into place or missing pieces of a puzzle will appear. It’s great when a plan starts to come together!
This theme gets stronger as we head towards the weekend as Mercury enters into a dance with the Sun and Mars:
Sun trine (harmonious) Mars – Saturday 02.07 GMT
Sun conjunct Mercury – Saturday 20.23 GMT
Mercury trine Mars – Sunday 08.20 GMT
The conjunction to the Sun is especially important as Mercury will then be “cazimi” – briefly drawing power from the heart of the Sun. Meetings, news, conversation or insights can all suddenly produce those light bulb moments so look out for these, they can make a big difference. Someone new coming into your life, or even back into your life, will also have a significant role to play.
Do note that Mars is starting to slow down too as he will also turn retrograde at the beginning of next month. In fact this is a rather trying time in terms of retrograde planets – Venus has only just gone direct, Mercury is now retrograde, and as soon as he turns direct again Mars and Saturn will then turn retrograde. This is very testing. No sooner have you dealt with one issue than another becomes complicated but the inherent lessons are to prioritise what matters to you. You can’t be everywhere, you can’t be all things to all people and you must do what makes you happy. This is not selfish, it is in fact the opposite. When you are healthy and enjoying life you have a positive effect on all of those around you as well as on yourself.
What better time to start putting this into real practice than with the Full Moon in Leo which is the highlight of the week, exact at 23.54 GMT on Friday night just a couple of hours before the Sun/Mercury/Mars alliance kicks off. So this is a glorious Full Moon – in the big bold fire sign of the Lion – and it’s going to be a wonderful Valentine’s night if you’re in love and planning something special with your other half. Leo is creative, expressive and loves to be lavish so why not pull out all the stops? Leo is also the performer of the zodiac and loves an audience, so make your loved one the centre of your attention and your universe, even if it’s only for one night!
If you’re looking for love it’s a definite yes to a Valentine’s occasion for singles. Leo loves courage and eye catching splendor, so don’t be a cowardly lion. Dress up to the nines, go to the ball Cinderella or out on the town with your mates. Friday is the night when love and passion will be on everyone’s mind so grab a piece of the action.
As well as all affairs of the heart the Full Moon in Leo is wonderful for recognition. In business it’s time to draw attention to your achievements and to showcase your work, especially if you’re self employed. As much as we need to know our areas of weakness and, as I said earlier, to recognize our limitations, it’s equally important to play to our strengths and to have the confidence to do so. In short, use the beginning of the week then to take the pressure off yourself/clear the decks and the second half of the week to rev up again/do what inspires you.
